Teachers' Union Contract - 11/12/08

Since the teachers' union contract is still generating talk in town... and now that Google Video is working for me again... here is the hour or so of Council discussion that led to the vote:

Over the past couple of weeks I've read newspaper articles saying that different towns have approved smaller increases or shorter contracts. I've also read that one superintendent refused their own salary increase. This is something that Cheshire should have done and I commend those on the council who were trying to accomplish this in our town.

Why do we need more teachers for fewer students?

Other sectors of the economy have produced productivity gains. Education has gone in the other direction. We don't have to look at Detroit for bad management and over compensated workers, we have them right here. Ct teachers are the highest paid in the country, why?
