The GOP aftermath of The Obamalanche

The US House Republicans took another drubbing last night. IMO, much of it was deserved.

One loss is pretty upsetting to me though - Virgil Goode of Virginia. He's down by 31 votes. And unfortunately, he's one of the good guys... unlike Ted "The Criminal" Stevens who may actually win.

At least though some good Republicans withstood the Obamalanche.

Ron Paul, Jeff Flake and John Shadegg each survived it. And Shadegg was targeted by the DCCC. The NRO has this good piece on who disappeared and who is left standing... along with a critique of whether they deserved to go or not.

Too bad people like Rep. John "donate to my charity, then I'll listen... unless you're one of my racist constituents" Murtha prevailed.

Alas, the election is over. Hopefully the GOPs soul-searching can now begin in earnest.

My first suggestion would be to get rid of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and replace him with "stop the bailout" Senator Jim Demint of South Carolina... or maybe Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. Coburn is a conservative, but Demint is more than a conservative... he's a freedom-lover! He really does want to reduce the size of government and he opposed the Bush/Obama bailout boondoggle in which America did an imitation of Hugo Chavez by nationalizing private industry.

My second suggestion would be to see if House Minority Leader John Boehner will fall... in part due to his horrible performance when he allowed the minority party to get blamed for the bailout! And if he does get toppled by his own caucus... then who will replace him? Personally, I kinda like Boehner, but the bailout was horrible and he supported it. Perhaps Shadegg could go for it again... as he did back in early 2006. It doesn't need to be Shadegg, but I certainly hope that the Establishmentarian Roy Blunt doesn't get it. He's just another insider like Jack Murtha.

Of course, the House Rs have Ron Paul. But I'm not kidding myself.

Anyway, I hope someone steps forward. Considering he had this piece in today's WaPo, Jeff Flake certainly appears to be interested.

Now comes the real scary part.
Leading off as the new Chief of Staff.... Rahm Emanuel

Sounds like good old Chicago politics is moving to Washington.

Look Out!

Rahm has one good quality.

Shays recently said of Nancy Pelosi that she'd stab him in the back. But Rahm wouldn't do that to him. Nope. Rahm would stab in the front.

Hey... there's something to be said for people who go for your jugular, but at least tell you their intentions.

This is the first hint that The Chosen One will rule with a velvet glove covering his iron fist: smooth oratory covering his Chicago hardball.

RE: "Obamalanche"

It wasn't really an avalanche. Nearly half of the American people, 48%, voted against him.
