Falvey / White Mixville meeting & the turf

Andy Falvey and I held a meeting tonight regarding Mixville park. We discussed a number of topics, such as the dredging, dam and security concerns. The TM & P&R Director both attended. I thank them for their presence tonight.

But for many of you, I think the most interesting comment tonight was entirely unrelated to Mixville. I understand the fundraising for the turf got a boost tonight from the Gridiron Club... to the tune of $25,000.

Great, $25,000 down, only $231,000 to go.(If that is the correct number)

Does anyone know what the actual costs will be yet?
Are we looking at just the costs for the turf or does it include all the "extras" that have to be done when it is installed?

What happen if they only raise half, how do they go about giving back the money?

I have to laugh when they say that it will only cost $3,300 to maintain the turf each year. That is $63.46 a week. I wouldn' want my child playing on a field that is being used as many times as they say it will be, but it isn't properly cleansed.
Everywhere I read I see that it will beat the leasr $12,000 to take care of. Plus equipment will be needed to maintain it.
They expect the lacross team and the soccer team to use the field. Will then need to change the lines each time?

I think they will need a lot more donations then $25,000 to get this done.

Ask West Haven how much their revenue is from their field?
It isn't that much.

Let's see, at $25k per donation all they still need is somewhere between about 10 and 40 more $25k donations. Of course the final number depends upon the real final cost too. So, are there 40 more groups or individuals willing to part with that much or are all the field boosters already forking over their pennies to the Gridiron club to allow for its donation?

I would have to question the GridIron club making the donation. There is no real cost number out there that makes sense. It is a black hole. Again, I am not against the turf, but the planning stinks. Has anyone figured out the cost of the electricity, water, drainage, etc?
Tim: where are the funds being deposited? What town fund is it going into? Surely the town is not going to move forward without having complete control of all the funds?

Isn't the Gridiron Club required to disclose who made the donations that comprsied this $25K?

I agree the Gridiron Club's finances should be reviewed. Parents have an open checkbook when it comes to sports. Checks payable to the Gridiron Club for dues, football sweats, etc. Is the Gridiron Club taking part of this money from the parents and putting towards the turf? If so, they should make it clear to the parents and the public especially since some may not want their money going towards turf.

And we still haven't heard where the original $10,000 donation came from that was to be for the turf study. They never used it to pay Milone & McBroom. So what did they do with it?

If we can't get clear answers we will have to presume that there's some creative accounting going on with the club. Not good.

3:55 How much money have you given the Club?

I personally don't care who is giving the money. God bless them for being so giving. Everyone has different ideas on how they spend their money so I don't feel its anyones business who is donating. Who says anyone has the right to know who is contributing? Do you ask your church for a breakdown of gifts???? There are a lot of generous people in Cheshire - we should be happy. If I thought there was a good plan in place, I would make a donation too.

I would too, but the point is you should know exactly where your money is going.

I'll ask again:

3:55 How much money have you given the Club?

Instead of asking how much money a person has given to the club, why not just tell us what exactly happens with all of it?
