CNN on the Soviets in Afghanistan

CNN has this interesting piece on the 1980s Soviet occupation of Afghanistan:

Whether one's concern is terrorism or freedom or anything else, it seems to me that it is incumbent on President Obama to explain what it means for America to win in Afghanistan. And considering that his own war cabinet seems to disagree with his timetable for withdrawal... I'm not confident that the President has a clear vision for the Afghani-American relationship.

I am not sure what we are doing in Afghanistan. We are fighting the Taliban or Al Queda or chasing the dead guy Osama Bin Laden.

First they are all in Afghanistan and then in Iraq, and then maybe in Iran, and now back to Afghanistan.

So it is pretty obvious we are using Afghanistan as a staging area to invade Pakistan, because the really do have WMDs that could fall into the wrong hands. This is a guess on my part, but it makes about as much sense as what I hear on MSM.
