A reminder of the unnecessary spending

Google Alerts sent this to my inbox today...

From June 2006, by Luther Turmelle:

The Town Council has agreed to spend $9,000 to hire a consultant to address how to best convert land donated to the town by the state near the Cheshire Correctional Institution into athletic fields. The allocation to hire a consultant was approved 6-2, with Councilmen Tim White and Dave Schrumm, both Republicans, opposing the expenditure.

$9k for ballfields two years ago... and who knows if they'll ever happen. $20k for the pool consultant that did nothing. $50k for software to pave our roads, even though most people can see the cracks.

At least we didn't shell out $10k for the artificial study of turf.

And don't forget the $70,000 plus extra spent on the Norton Boiler job; which btw have there been any cost over runs with all the delays and change orders?

On another topic - What's with that huge hole dug in the ground on that empty lot next to Seven Eleven? Were they removing contaminated ground? They better fill it in fast before Rt. 10 collapses.

yeah... the Norton Boiler job that had to be re-bid because we didn't want to take any chances of running into October (2007) with the bid winner.

Should I laugh or cry?

At the confluence of energy and engineering, this Council has proven itself to be completely incompetent.

Rumor has it that a coffee shop is being built there.

I heard Cindy Kliest is building the Underground Town Hall there.

How about a "Drug Store" we sure could use another one. Everyone is sick over all the bad financial news.

Tim,

what happens when the ball park doesn't get built due to lack of funds.....do they have a time frame to do this or are we stuck with them having a lease for x amount of years...

I recall there was a timeframe within the Kids in Motion agreement. And I recall discussion of doing the same with the CYB/LL agreement.

I don't recall specifically, but am of the understanding that it's in there.
