Mixville meeting - 6/24

The Council met tonight to vote on a proposed fee structure for car parking at Mixville - there will be no fee for pedestrians and / or bicycles.

The fee structure adopted will be:

$40 for a summer pass for residents
$120 for a summer pass for non-residents
$5 for a daily pass for residents
$10 for a daily pass for non-residents

Several people behind the dais voiced their concerns about budgetary constraints within the budget.

In response - and I don't recall my exact words, but - I pointed out that these same people who are so concerned about the budget are the same people who spend money on:

1) town-owned take-home vehicles,
2) 5% to 7% raises for select Town Hall ee's this year,
3) conferences & seminars across the country,
4) the annual pool subsidy to the tune of $400,000 per year,
5) giving a sweetheart deal an easement to a major campaign contributor for $10,
6) spending nearly $250,000 on the pool this month.

I'm sick and tired of listening to Cheshire's Political Class complain about spending a few thousand dollars at Mixville when they can't stop throwing money at the pool and countless other things - $50,000 on a road consultant, $14,000 on another strategic plan, $525,000 on turf. In this economy? Where does it end?

If there are budget cuts, then it happens across the board. I'm tired of Cheshire's Political Class wasting countless dollars on the pool and neglecting Mixville... and other parks, such as Cheshire's newest quarry - Cheshire Park.

I really hope we can have a good housecleaning in November.

Was going to attend on Monday but couldn't be there tonight. Doesn't sound like I missed anything but Tim serving up a good tongue lashing to a few deserving individuals :-) I'm sorry I missed it. Will it be televised?

It wasn't televised (or recorded).

Damn, would like to have seen it. I'd like to say good work everybody. It took a LOT of bitching and moaning but we're finally starting to see some results... now how about the pump station? Does town hall still have the funds set aside for it or has it been spent on that freaking urine bath/money pit across the street from the high school?

Adam, Tim does not give "tongue lashings", as he perfers to just repeat what everyone else says.

This is a wonderful idea. Nobody uses the park, so lets charge the few to use it. I will be leaving my trash where ever I want now since people are going to be paid to clean up after me. It will be so much easier than hauling it home and adding it to my own trash.

Since the town is going to be charging to use Mixville, will the town also do a better job maintaining the park to resemble places like Hubbard Park?

That's what we're hoping for. Maintenance, or the lack thereof, is why we're so vocal on the subject of Mixville. Out-of-towners may be high on other peoples list of complaints but is secondary to me. (besides the foul language eminating from the basketball court) Most of the people I meet at Mixville who happen to be from out of town respect the park and the people who live near it. It's the same old mantra, "A few ruin it for the rest." Also, people have ALWAYS been paid to clean up after you, they just haven't been doing it. Why the hell do you have to carry your trash out of the park? There are trash receptacles all over the place. How many garbage cans do you see at Hubbard park? None, because Meriden refuses to provide any. Do you want to know why nobody uses Mixville? It's because Cheshire won't dredge the pond. What's the point in having a beach when you can't swim? For years upon years the town had charged for parking and the place was PACKED! Now it's gone to hell. Like I said maintenance is the key issue here. The secondary issues should be to implement the pump station so the lawn can be mowed, dredge the pond, and hire some lifeguards. Do this and the place will be restored to it's former glory. By the way if you'd like to experience a real tongue lashing, let me see you leaving your crap lying around the park.

Tim,

Since you are a part of the minority political class may I recommend one thing. And this goes for our Federal political class also. Let the majority do whatever they wish..not to say that you should not voice you opinion or vote your useless minority input.

The residents of this town and every town for that matter are not stupid. When they see what's going on and how much is hitting them where it hurts they will remember who was in charge and who opposed all this spending.

If the rich residents don't mind, they will keep the current majority in place come November. Everyone else who is hurting and notices a new turf field and nice town raises and filling the pool with twenties every summer then they will vote the wasters out.

Don't let this get to your or any of the other council members that think as you do. I feel the same way with our federal govt. With all of this wild spending and govt. takeovers and bailouts and socialized medical and a weakening defense there's noting we can do to stop it (we can voice our displeasure,) but we can't stop the radical from changing his spots. But we sure can vote him out if we live to see November 2012. By then we will be tested at least every six months (according to Joe Blow.)

I'm building a safe room in my basement and stocking up on food and water. I have my wind up radio and a shotgun, I don't want to be talking Korean or Farsi anytime soon.

God Bless and stay safe,

MJR

A safe room? Arnt we being a little parinoid?

I dont think we have to worry about speaking Korean anytime soon....

Who voted for and who voted against?

This is an election issue.

Adam, 1:25 is a troll. It's common place for that troll to make ridiculous statements, such as "Tim doesn't live in Cheshire."

Where is the fee for all the other parks?

What does this park offer that is that much more attractive than all the other parks?

Looks like the people living around Mixville are special. They don't have to pay a damn thing. It's not right. Either everyone pays or no one.

I want to keep out of towners off our linear trail. Let's put up a toll booth at every intersection so they can pay for the police to patrol the parking areas, park and rec plowing it, and public works paving it. Good for 1 park, good for all parks

It's not about that Mr. Sarcastic. It's really not. You'd have everyone believe that it's a race or class issue just to further your own agenda. I've been told that arguing with people like you will get me nowhere. It is an exercise in futility and will accomplish nothing but getting me worked up. But you know what? (I like it :-)

Two rebuttals: one for 4:17pm do you really think I'm building a safe room in my home? Shotgun-YES.

Also 5:21pm, I guess you never been to Koreatown in LA or Palisades Park in NJ..which is only hours from pristine Cheshire,CT USA.

Adam, how is it not the same? Out of towners come to walk the trail and to break into cars. Criminals have a quick escape route from any house along the trail. Do you think I am being sarcastic because you cannot see the trail from your house? I wasn't kidding that I want toll booths.

Good for 1 park, good for all parks

I like many other people in town have gone to Mixville for a quick walk around the park and to see the wildlife. In total, I would spend 15 to 20 minutes. I hope your happy that 99% of the people in town have been screwed.

Thank the few that screwed the rest of us.

Wonderful idea, few people go to the park so lets charge them.

November cant come soon enough - we can replace EVERYONE (Tim included!!!!)

Offend the masses to please the few.

Isnt that what is being done with mixville? Now in a few years, the gate charge will be dropped and having a free, local park will increase property values in the area. Nice job playing the politics game Adam.

I feel sad that we think only "outsiders" litter...

I liter now since I know someone will be there to pick it up. No point doing someones job for free when they are getting paid.

Now that Tim has helped increase the value of the homes in Laura's district, will he ever do anything for those in his? (Bowmans really appreciate you helping them!!)

I was at the park tonight before the storms and met a few "out of towners" that I had seen at the park before. I made sure to point out that Bartlem and Cheshire Parks will remain free and anyone can use them. They were excited as they were told Bartlem was charging by one of the Mixville neighbors. They are telling their friends and want to visit this weekend!

Anonymous said...

The Waterbury paper website is telling everyone that the rest of the parks are open to the public and encourage Waterbury residents to come visit.

"What does this park offer that is that much more attractive than all the other parks?"

Nobody seems to have an answer and that's because there is no answer.

Well now that the trolls have decided to charge, it is time that this park be self sufficient. I can't see why I have to pay for a park that is free to the neighborhood.

I love the stipulation that people on foot can use the park for free. How many Bowmans can spit on the park from their porch? How can I get my own town park that everyone else has to pay to use? First we give Brodach (Bowmans) free land then we give them a park. What's next, town vehicles?

So many ignorant people on this board. I believe there are only two "bowman" families still living in the mixville area. But what does that matter. We are talking about an area that has hundreds of houses. Why does two matter. People in this town have long neglected mixville and now finally someone is doing something about it and supposed mixville loyals show up out of nowhere. Mixville always charged to get in. It is only during recent times that it has not. People in this town dont realize how much Ed Bowman Sr. has done for this town from youth and high school sports and no not just football, to youth theatre to charitable contributions all over the place. A man of integrity and honor who would be mad if he knew someone was bragging about him on this board. Don't use "the bowmans" as an excuse. If you have a problem with them, then throw down an example of there wrongdoing with some hard facts. I would reccommend that first you look at all who have benefited from Eds good work.

I forgot how much benefit a free park is going to help increase the property values in the mixville area. I have had trouble concentrating listening to the hammer over at consolidated dropping all morning. Let me guess no one else posting here has a drop forge factory in there back yard.

How about dirt bikes in dickerman, the helicoptor at bozzuttos, the shooting at the prison, trucks on I84.

I agree with 9:52. I believe Ed Bowman Sr. donated a large portion of mixville land to the town. Bowman's have nothing to do with this. The bottom line is that it was always pay for play and I am glad it is back that way. People always comment negatively about the bowman's on this board. The happen to be a large family with many branches of business, but they are not the Kennedy's. I have know Ed Sr for over 30 years and the rest of his family. They are a hard working irish catholic family who never have taken advantage of anybody, if fact it is the complete opposite.

8:52 p.m. you are forgetting one small thing which as a minimum has soured many people. Let us not forget the Village Oil/F&S Oil debacle which impacted about 10,000 households locally and state wide. Clearly members of the family you praise were not exactly some of the 10,000 households state wide who lost thousands of dollars each in one incredible scheme to defraud the public. Some of the family members you speak of had management and ownership roles in the business scheme which unfortunately resulted in many being defrauded of millions of dollars.

Their past kindness and generosity is not unnoticed or unappreciated but let's not forget that all is not as rosy as you try to make it either.

Anonymous said...

dont forget the forensic accountant is a town resident and a customer of Bowmans. More fraud!!! Bowmans had management roles in F&S and knew that there were problems.
