Florio up for the Super's position in Newington?

I haven't seen the article, but I understand the MRJ ran a piece this week about Greg Florio being a finalist in the running for Superintendent of Schools in Newington, CT.

I believe Greg lives in Newington. So it's probably a good fit for him. I wish him the best of luck!

Also worth noting is that Paul Calaluce is retiring within a few weeks. So Steve Mrowka must have his hands full right now. To Steve and the BOE, good luck.

As for me, I'd find it to be quite interesting if the Town side suddenly had both the Town Manager and Assistant Town Manager leaving.

NH Register has the same article today. As much as Florio talks down to the people in Town, he won't get away with that in Newington. The BOE should not replace Carluce; position not needed.

I wonder if Florio knew he was going to be leaving when he "offered" not to take a pay raise this year?

I also wonder if he does get the position in Newington, where he lives, if he will be as "pro-teacher" as he was in Cheshire. This time the raises and added budget costs will come out of his pocket through his property taxes, so he may not be so generous.

Good riddance. Hurray.

It's time for a town wide party and then the search for a replace ment who will must concentrate on replacing current the over bloated dinasaur education system, provide the highest educational opportunities and who understands where the money comes from. We have had enough of a superintendent whose main thrust was to support high teacher salary and benefits at the expense of the students and taxpayers.

We are in a tough global economy and the simple days of just spending more for less will not work. We need drastic change that insures a 21st century education that is provided effectively and efficiently.

10:57 That's the exact reason why our superintendents should be required to live Cheshire. It is a requirement, yet the boe waives that requirement every time.

The only school administrator that can go from Cheshire to Newington and improve both systems at the same time.

Now that the Town Manager has been able to increase our credit rating up another notch; he too will leave shortly as that is the only metric he managed to the Town to or by.

Sometimes it's a good idea to clean the house.

"increase our credit rating"

Not speaking in relation to Cheshire, but I hope someone (Obama, Geithner, Bernanke, Dodd, etc.) has the courage to admit the credit agencies are largely a sham perpetrated on America and perpetuated by everyone... including here in Cheshire.

Maybe the courts will eventually expose them for what they are? The aforementioned political figures are all part of the horrible system that created the ratings agencies and exists for the Political Class.

When the going gets tough, the meek get going.

Maybe the turf heads and our rich thinking fearless teacher's union leader will follow him out the door - - we can hope.

we should seriously consider re-writing the superintendants contract if we need to replace him. this would be the best time to start with a lower pay and less perks. in these times, we should be able to get someone willing to take less money.
