Possible euthanization of geese

The MRJ gives its take on Cheshire's possible euthanization of Canada geese (by Stacy Graham Hunt) at Mixville and Bartlem Parks.

We have severely depleted the natural predators of the geese.
We have overly protected the geese when they were not endangered.
The next thing we can expect is PETA breathing down our necks when we try to correct the mistakes of the past.
It wouldn't surprise me if they started protesting for the rights of the "unhatched".

Yes, let's kill the geese and throw in some ducks, stray dogs and cats, turkey's, skunks, raccoons, beavers, roosters, hens, squirrels, dear, for crying out loud if a horse gets loose lock and load and take it down too!!

Com'on, someone in this town must know how to remove the geese without scrambling eggs or euthanization. I don't support PETA or am I an leftest radical animal rights nut case. To me they are still one of God's creations.

I use Mixville park a lot, I walk my three dogs there most everyday. The geese problem is a real mess, but let' have conscious moral solution to this problem.

P.S. Shouldn't this project be put out to bid?

Aids is one of God's creations. So are vampire bats termites and pin worms.
What does that have to do with anything?
The geese are overpopulated and they have no natural predators.
We should increase the bag limit for the goose season.
Are you anti hunting too?

FYI, AIDS was born out of the sins of mankind which is the devil's work. If you're killing animals for the arousal of the sport only, I'm not in favor of that, although it is legal. If you are hunting for animals to put food on the table that's fine with me, we live in a world of survival of the fittest.

Comments Ms. Anonymous?

P.S. If we would have it your way there would be rife fire at Mixville Park? Do you believe that's safe for the people who go there for recreation?

Move the geese to the "Community Field" and see how fast they are gotten rid of. Capture and relocate them to inside the bubble, that indoor air environment will cause them to expire naturally.

Relocation of wild animals is typically unsuccessful because this throws off the ecological balance of the new environment. Relocated geese would compete with other already-established geese and water fowl in the new environment, endangering all.

Nature's way of thinning over-population of wild animals is by natural predation. If there are no longer natural predators to do the job, it falls on humans to play that role through hunting.

The natural balance has been already been changed. Two years of of democrat control on Town Council is way out of balance for Cheshire. They did it by killing us with promises.

Disease is part of Gods plan as is death and predation. It is all part of nature and I for one do not feel remotely qualified to analyze God's motives.

I am really impressed that you have such inside info as to what is or is not the Devil's work.
You might want to let some poor kid who got aids from a blood transfusion that it is from the sins of mankind, or maybe he was a bad boy.

Read the Bible. It was the origin of AIDS in which I was speaking about. The unfortunate innocent victims are a test of our faith. If you are true reborn Christian you would comprehend my statement and not spin it to make me out as uninformed.
Sincerely,

Good work Mike,
I was just taking you on to see how good you would be in a debate with, say, some liberal.
You passed with flying colors.
Looks to me like you could stand up to the best of them.
Elections are coming sooner than you realize.

God does not cause AIDS, cancer, or any other disease as “a test of faith”. That’s your interpretation of the Bible, and it’s Old Testament at that. Jesus never said anything of the sort. He went around healing people of diseases. Nor does God direct tornados, hurricanes or other natural disasters to harm people or to test their faith. He set natural laws in motion with lives of their own, but “the rain falls upon the just and unjust alike.”

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

Count the geese and compare their number to the number of people in Cheshire. How is it so easy to say there are too many geese and not be able to recognize that there are too many people? I'd be more worried about the uncontrolled growth of the human population and how it is outstripping the earths resources.

How many geese are we talking about? 30, 40 or even 50 in a town with 29,000 people.

What is it with you quacks that start talking about overpopulation of people, overconsumption of resourses, etc and in the next breath register alarm over a concern for public health and saftey in a park. Do you suggest we let people get sick, die and reduce human our numbers.

What are you having for dinner? What do you put in your gas tank and how often?

According to Yankee magazine 14,169 Canada geese were tallied 2007 in Conn. by the Audubon-sponsored birdcount. This was nearly three times the number for any other New England state. I have no clue if that too many, just right or not enough. They didn't add up the total tonage of droppings but make no mistake its a lot and the geese are flushing either. I do care if geese plops impact health and welfare of people.

"overpopulation of people"

This is a far bigger problem than most people think. The human race is out of control and is incapable of recognizing it or fixing the problem. Don't look to religion to fix it as many only care about increasing their numbers and as a result are the main cause of it.
