Esty makes it official

I had heard that she was planning on making her announcement yesterday. And the WRA reported it today... Elizabeth Esty is running for the 103rd House district against state Rep. Al Adinolfi.... no word yet on whether any Dems will by running against her for the nomination. And remember... with public financing... people will probably come out of the woodwork this year. And don't forget Al had an opponent, Phil Brewer, two years ago. So don't be surprised if he, or others, want the Dem nomination this year. Regardless... assuming Elizabeth is the nominee...

I suspect there's going to be quite a divide between the two candidates on a number of issues.

But in keeping this post brief, I'll just offer what is often the most divisive issue in politics... abortion.

Al Adinolfi has received money from the conservative Family Institute of Connecticut... an organization known for its pro-life positions. While Elizabeth has donated money to the liberal Emily's List... an organization dedicated "to elect pro-choice Democratic women."

No doubt that criminal justice reform will take center stage in this campaign though.

As for my support... it goes to Al... nobody works harder than he does. Though that's not to take anything away from Elizabeth. I have my differences with her, including some strong philosophical differences. But she's always straight with me.

As for who wins? I'd put money on Al. But I can't help wondering if Obama might actually... for the first time in a long time... get the 18-30 yr old demographic (who are usually considered "unlikely voters") to vote?

As always, "events on the ground" will dictate turnout. If Iraq and the economy have people down... that may motivate the youth vote with Obama as the nominee. Alternatively... if HRC is the nominee... will the economy make a difference, if she gets blamed for NAFTA? I have no idea. My sense is that Al wins... but the Obama factor makes me wonder. More on this later though... going to bed in a minute.

And speaking of Presidential politics... count me as one of those Republicans who isn't yet sold on McCain. But being a Paulista... I can't imagine that would surprise anyone.

Esty want to go to Hartford to hold more stupid witch hunts like they did to Carolyn Soltis?

All we need: another politically correct Ivy League yuppie preaching the nanny state. Like her hero Obama, who thinks tea and crumpets with the Iranians will be an effective foreign policy

I wish her well an will support her to the fullest ability. I believe in the Peter Principle and the soonest we can remove incompetent individuals from our local government the better. She will do less damage and less of an affect on Cheshire if she is in Hartford.

Did I read in today's NH Register that she is opposed to the 3 Strikes law?? Is she serious?
Maybe she isn't counting on the Cheshire vote.
I, for one, will do anything I can do to get Al re-elected. The last thing we need is a person like Esty in any office in this state.

She knew she was going to run against Al before the last election. Why did she run? Was it so she could say she is a two term council person? This person is not about serving her constituents, it's all about getting her promoting her poltical ambitions and her self importance.

She showed she has no scruples with her unwarranted, underhanded vicious attacks against two good public servants Tim Slocum, and Carolyn Soltis.

She has shown her unwavering support for the developers and special interests. She certainly went out of her way to help engineer the approval of the W/S mall and the local owners of the property. She certainly helped to gut the WPCA commission so that the sewer plant capacity would not stand in the way of the mall or her political ambitions.

This is all we need, another lunatic liberal activist like Vickie Nardello in Hartford who

* has "compassion" for criminal thugs (opposes 3-Strikes),

* wants handouts to illegal aliens (probably supports tuition breaks), and

* wants to spend spend spend OUR money for her "enlightened" liberal agenda.

What's the reference to the "witch hunts and Carolyn Soltis" about?

She also spent $14,000 for that council seat I believe?

she ran around implying she had Sheldon Dill's endorsement when she ran. Which she didn't. I guess those Yalies have a different concept of "truth" than swamp yankees like me.

Quod... it was dubbed Shenanigate... I believe all my posts on it are from June 2007... (so this may predate you joining the CT blogosphere) But here's one post that probably can explain the source of some anger.

It would be nice if there was a rule that you had to resign from the town council before you could run for a state office. Then when she lost we would really win.

Enough with the deceptions and shenanigans.

That's a rule that should apply to all candidates. How can they do their job? Are the presidential candidates performing their duties? If they resigned I would find them more believable.

Dodd really annoyed me when he enrolled his daughter in school in Iowa.

8:12 You mean when she loses she'll be back on the council?? Oh crap.

RE: Elizabeth Esty has donated money to the liberal Emily's List, an organization dedicated "to elect pro-choice Democratic women."

Abortion rights is this group's sole agenda, including taxpayer-funded abortions, and unrestricted late term PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTIONS.

Emily's List demands 100% compliance with its most extreme pro-abortion positions. They withdrew support from Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu because, while otherwise pro-choice, Landrieu opposed late term, partial birth abortions, except to save the mother's life.

Google up "Emily's List" + abortion to see for yourself.

So now that Esty is running for state rep., we want to know, does she support unrestricted, taxpayer-funded, late term abortions of fully viable babies?

Remember, less than 3% of abortions are due to incest, rape, or to protect mother's life. 97% of abortions are for social convenience.

The last comments fill me with rage!

Womyn have the right to do anything they want with their bodies and offspring, late term, viable or not! We’re way beyond debating conventional and late term abortions.

Peter Singer of Princeton proposes a 40 day window for post-natal abortions. The mother would have 40 days after birth to change her mind. A young infant is just as dependent on its mother as a third trimester offspring, so why shouldn’t the mother have the right to choose post-natal abortion?

Womyn’s rage is womyn’s power! Emily’s List empowers womyn!

Angrywomyn is right about one thing : a 40 day old baby is just as dependent on its mom as a late term fetus. She uses that as an argument to justify homicide of month old babies, but it’s really an argument to outlaw late term abortion, which is clearly the homicide of a fully formed, fully viable human being.

I also want to know if Ms. Esty favors unrestricted late term abortions, and taxpayer funding of abortion.

Esty contributes to a group which promotes late term abortions and demands public funding of it. That's disgusting.

I suppose this has become the norm among Democrats, which is one reason I left the Dem party.

What is Esty in touch with? She doesn't even listen to the people from Cheshire. She votes with the majority all the time. How can this be?
