Earth Day 2008

Do any of you have any good ideas for Earth Day? Any ideas to make the world more sustainable? My small part this year has been moving to a canvas bag for shopping.

Here's my idea for Earth Day. All those NOT in favor of installing a toxic artificial turf field should contact Gov. Rell's office and request that she sign Bill #361, An Act Concerning the Study of Toxicity of Artificial Turf Fields.
Below is the contact info via mail or email:

I'm going to tell you a story from my childhood. It was the first day of high school for me back in 1974. History was then called Afro-Asian Culture Studies.

As I think back, I remember sitting in a large room with over 50 or more other students talking quite loudly. Suddenly a middle eastern looking man creeped up in front of us very slowly. The noise level inched its way down to the point of total silence.

This professor was staring us down with his evil looking pug like face. He turned towards the black board and used the side of the chalk and slowly wrote giant letters O_____I_____L. He turned around, looked at all of us dumb faced adolecents and at the top of his lungs he screamed OIL!!! OIL!!!

I could see the veins in his neck almost ready to burst. He went on to say that "he who has it rules the world." It's so true to this very day 34 years later.

My point is that this countries leaders have done nothing in the past 4 decades to become self- sufficient of energy. They might say what you want to here but it still comes down to OIL!!! OIL!!! He who has it rules the world.

My goal this year is to start to become self sufficient on natures energy. Solar for electricity and hot water. Geothermal for heating and air conditioning. I already had a reverse osmosis water filtering system installed in my house and I drink sparkling clean tasting tap water.

I only use energy star florescent lighting when an incandescent bulb goes bad.

Earth Day Tim? every day should be an earth day. We are mostly gluttens when it comes to being earth friendly. Canvas bags are a good start rather than using paper or plastic. But on a larger scale we need to put someone in the White House (no pun intended) who will stand up to the oil cartels and conglomerates and tell them that the party is over. Amen!
