The Wizard of Cheshire

In a recent post I detailed a question I posed to State Rep. Mary Fritz (D-90). I asked about the criteria used to prioritize the allocation of the annual $36,000,000 discretionary fund in Hartford.

Rep. Fritz replied:

"They are not slush funds. It's called negotiations."

Frankly, I kinda felt as though I was being reprimanded by The Wizard of Cheshire. It's almost as if the next sentence could've been:

Pay no attention to that man negotiation behind the curtain!

I have a feeling, L. Frank Baum may agree.

As much as I disagree with the turf grant and why it came to be...picking on Mary Fritz is getting old Tim W...I appreciate you going back to the source but at some point you're actually going to do something about the turf right? Whether or not Mary agrees with the slush fund concept...is not going to prevent the turf from getting done. That seems to be up to the town council. So, what's the town council's next step regarding turf? Will there be a motion at the next meeting to postpone the turf?

2:06 I agree,

Tim what did you expect, you asked a tough question?

I'm not sure. The artificial turf is not a priority for me. Off the top of my head, my priorities right now are the police 'no confidence' vote and performance contracting. I expect Jimmy will be the Planning Committee Chairman and he'll lead on the pool.

I'm guessing though that artificial turf will be on the Council agenda in the near future.

You think that asking a state representative, who can give us $525,000, where the money comes from is a "tough question"?

I don't get it. How is that tough?

Someone representing us on the state level should be able to speak intelligently about how the money gets from the state (who is in a horrific financial situation)to our town. She should also tell us who approched her to get this money. We should then ask those people why they would bypass the town council when approaching her.

Mary Fritz came off acting like an arrogant baby because someone asked her a "tough" question....give me a break.

CV, it is a tough question because of the answer. If everything was done on the up and up in getting this grant the question would not have to be asked. Tim knows this, you know this.

Oh I also reread the 2:06 post and I don't agree anymore, Tim can pick on Mary all he wants. I think it is getting old when Tim keeps pointing out with his Star Wars and Wizard of Oz bits, that he is surprised to some degree by these responses.

"I think it is getting old when Tim keeps pointing out with his Star Wars and Wizard of Oz bits,..."

Not for nothing, but it is almost like having the Comic Book Guy on the council.

Maybe Tim can answer this one: Who would win in a hand to hand fight, The Wizard or Darth Vador?

Comic Book Guy/Tim

Definitely go with the Green Lantern, he's the best.

If Tim is anyone from the Simpsons, it is Millhouse
