Veterans Day 2009
There was a really nice turnout for today's Veterans Day event on the Green. Thanks go to my dad (VFW Commander) and Ernie Dipietro (American Legion Commander) for having organized the event. This year's ceremony included a brief Civil War reenactment.
And in case you are unaware, Veterans Day is intended to honor all of America's veterans. It differs from Memorial Day in that Memorial Day is intended to honor our fallen soldiers.

Nice ceremony as always. Although this may seem unimportant to some, I just wonder why the green was covered in leaves. You'd think it would have been cleaned up before the ceremony. I had a difficult time hearing what was said especially with the rustling of all those leaves.
Lucky for us that the green is NOT owned by the town. You can take the issue up with the Congrigational Church
And today is also Remembrance Day in the UK, Canada, and the British Commonwealth. For them, it is like Memorial Day and Veterans Day rolled into one.
Every year, the Queen lays a wreath at exactly 11:11 AM, followed by a national two minutes of silence to honor all who gave their lives. (WWI ended at 11:11 AM on 11/11, 1918).

Route 10 and emergency vehicles were the noise makers. For God's sakes the leaves have fallen every day the last two weeks and volunteers get to clean up the mess on the green. I'm sure the scouts, vets and just about everyone else could care about the fallen leaves. Today was about the fallen, those that served and those serving.
