Whats the problem? The council felt bidding would get us a better rate AFTER the budget was set. Let the all knowing council pay for the bus increase.

Who was reponsible for the timing of the bid? It seems that it was brought to the TC late. Of course the bidder new we were in a bind. He took advantage of us. The Charter says that we SEND THINGS OUT TO BID. The TC did their job. It didn't work out. Let's look at other line items in the BOE budget and see if some have extra, if they do take it out of those and at the end of the year come vback and ask. We all must live within our means, try it.

According to a recent NHR article the superintendent needs help from an industrial hygienist to figure out how to clean locker rooms. Maybe the superintendent also needs some more help in figuring out how to get high visibility bids out on time too?

And maybe it's time to take a look at the issue of overall performance. While the superintendent spent time on pie-in-the-sky artificial turf schemes the boys CHS locker room went into the sewer and the bus contract hosed the town budget. The superintendent and the BOE don't seem to be doing very well in these areas.

The council is responsible for the bid. How did anyone believe the TM would be able to get a budget prepared with uncollected bids? The TM budget was presented and passed while the bus and trash bids were still out. The council never got the rates so the proposed and passed budget was a farce. The only item in the budget that got more money is the teachers salaries. Take back the raises and we can bus the students into the schools to be taught.

The sad part is that many buses are empty(State Law). The good thing is with less weight more miles per gallon. The bus company wins and makes more of a profit. What a crazy law. Why can't someone look at this at the state level.

What is crazy? Requiring the safe transportation of students to and from school? The busses in Cheshire happen to be half empty but a majority of the towns in the state have full busses. Cheshire should look at closing the student parking lot and make the kids take the bus. Parents know that when they get on the bus, the only time they get off is at school. When they leave, the students have to go home. Also cuts down on traffic at the high school and center of town.

So at the meeting tonight Ruocco asks the Super if the bus contract bid process could have been started earlier and the Super answered, "Absolutely." Course then he went on about how long the process took, but the point everyone needs to realize is that yes it could have started earlier.
Renogotiating may be the easier road to take, but if you start the bid process early enough there's no reason why we shouldn't have different bus companies offering their services.

Just poor planning if you ask me.

P4: Piss-Poor Planning, Per usual.

Anon 5:57 I believe this(empty buses) happens in many Towns. If you decide to drive you give up the "safe ride" to and from school. A smaller bus could be used etc to save many $$$$.

The bus company would never budge. They submitted a bid like they were asked to. We accepted the bid. Remember, the bus company offered a minimal increase but we threw it in their faces. Same thing happened to trash. We have to live with what they tell us now.

Maybe the incoming council will be willing to listen to residents. I recall on this blog warnings about this happening.

All these vendors took advantage of the Town. Why the difference in the no bid contract and the open bid contract? They gave us the shaft. Next bid process should be done( as required by charter)on time and will generate more bids. I would hope that they would not be the low bidders and we can change vendors.
