Tradition Energy said that power customers should expect big rate hikes in the price of retail electricity in the coming months. "Natural gas and coal account for over two-thirds of the fuel used for power generation in the United States, and a number of factors in the wholesale energy market are driving the prices for these generation fuels higher and higher," said Addison Armstrong, Director of Market Research and CNBC contributor. "An expected decrease in imports of liquefied natural gas, coal shortages in Europe and China, the potential for a very warm summer, and low levels of natural gas in storage in both the U.S. and Canada are all putting upward pressure on prices."
