Madison zone change

MADISON — A zoning change request on the table at next week’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting could pave the way for a new hotel and restaurant — or a variety of other commercial projects — off Interstate 95. Commissioners will consider a request to create a Highway Economic Development Service District near Interstate 95 and Exit 62. A developer is then seeking a zoning change on 11.36 acres at 155 New Road from rural residential to the new highway economic development zone. If approved, the new zone would allow a retail store or professional office with a site plan approval. Acquiring a "special exception permit" opens the door to a range of other commercial opportunities, including a hotel, restaurant, bank, gymnasium, day-care facility or art gallery. What's a "highway economic development service district?"
