Southington smartboards

Southington schools seem to like their smartboards (MRJ, by Jennifer Manes). Anyone know the status of Cheshire's smartboards?

Waste of money, all we need is a teacher and a white board.

I believe, from following the board meetings, that Cheshire has purchased the 55 smart boards and the superintendent was deciding where each one of them will go.

Tim, does the current town budget allow for another $275K for another 55 smart boards, do you know? Is it part of their 5 year capital budget? If so, do they have to vote on whether to turn that money over to the boe?

No more smart boards.

Whenever the cumulative effect of a capital budget item exceeds $350,000, it must go to referendum.

And since the Council included $275,000 (55 boards @ $5,000 each) in August 06... now if the Council included $76,000 in the cap budget in Aug 07, that request would have to go to referendum.

The money for 55 boards was appropriated last July in the capital budget. The boards were not ordered until just recently and delivery is scheduled in May. That leaves a few short weeks to place, install and let the teachers, staff & students use hem. As the 55 were a test program this leaves no time for actual "testing". Based on this why would the school ask for more money this year when they took a year to get the first ones and there has not been an adequate test time? Asking for money in this years capital budget, based on past performance does not make sense.

These can't be worth the money. Don't give them any additional funds they just waste it.
