The annual Home, Garden, & Business Expo will be held this Saturday at (I believe) CHS. The young (he's younger than me!) Congressman Chris Murphy is planning to attend. So head over, let him know what's on your mind and spend some money on local businesses while you're there!
On April 3, the Town of Seymour will hold a town meeting for residents to vote on a proposal to spend $825,000 on artificial turf. (WRA, by Jodie Mozdzer) Anyone know if the proposed funding is local or state tax dollars or something else?
On Konover's proposed retail development in Watertown, "residents gave a list of questions and concerns to the Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday they want answered by the Konover Corp. about its planned $64 million retail complex. More than a dozen residents attended the commission's meeting, centering their questions around the economic and traffic impact of the planned 415,000-square-foot retail complex. Konover needs the commission to amend zoning regulations to allow for mixed use on a 119 acres zoned for industrial use" (WRA, by Jonathan Shugarts)

The Human Services Committee continues to update their website Cheshire Cares with info on their April "alcohol awareness" week.
And one last point of information... a few weeks ago, an anonymous poster here wrote that Councilman Matt Altieri is a member of the union leadership where he works. However, he sent me an email and refuted that assertion. He said that while he is a teacher (and union member) in the Wallingford Public Schools, he is not a member of their union leadership. Rather, he was a member of the union leadership where he formerly taught... somewhere along the shoreline... Madison or Guilford, maybe? Anyway, I take him at his word that he was, but no longer is, involved in a union leadership position.

The WRA article on the Seymour turf says that the money will come from surpluses from previous budgets. They're paying cash, says the article.
Not sure if that's a good idea, but at least they're letting the voters decide.
It is very good that you do put disclaimers in Tim as sometimes some posters put stuff in that just does not seem right. As a member of a union in the trade fields I don't think that anyone should be excluded in politics because of their occupation. Unless there is a direct conflict of interest (and to Mr Alteiri's credit he did recuse himself in the ballfield issue) we should be getting as wide and varied selection of town folk involved in poltics. I applaud Mr Alteiri or anyone for standing for seniors (he cast his vote for them the other day) as well as supporting education. It shows that the Democrats have been able to balance both groups without throwing the whole town out of wack. It should be clear the some members of unions don't always go in some sort of lock step and sometimes disagree with our leaders-we just don't always make a public spectacle of it.

I don't know their town at all really. But considering Cheshire's linear trail vote and Middletown's recent rejection (1400-900) of turf, I'm guessing that statewide... many, though certainly not all, towns are saying no to recreation projects paid for with property tax dollars.
Westport is spending some property tax dollars on turf. But they also paid for quite a bit of turf through private donations before their town got involved.

Alteiri may have recused himself from the ballfield issue, but I wonder if he should recuse himself from the vote on the budget number given to the BOE. He is a teacher and union member afterall. He's more than likely going to approve as much as possible for education whether they need it or not. I doubt he'd be looking to creatively try to reduce money from the BOE's budget.
Ever since the north end development started it seems we have been flooded with all these fake "conflict of interest" accusations. If one can prove one ok but just to say it does not make it true
Should Bill Kunde stop talking at Council meetings?
At least Mr. Kunde has the courage and knowledge to get up and talk at Town Council and BOE Meetings, etc. Where are the rest of Cheshire's residents? He has just as much right to voice his opinion as anyone else. He attempts to bring new ideas and solutions to the table and keep our elected officials honest. He does his homework.
And sells products to the town without disclosure?
