The Hypocrite-in-Chief stumps in Massachusetts

President Obama is stumping for Massachusetts Senate candidate Martha Coakley. And Obama gave a fine demonstration of his hypocrisy.

From the HuffPost's Charles Babington and Liz Sidoti:

"Martha's opponent already is walking in lockstep with Washington Republicans," Obama said, criticizing Brown for opposing the president's proposed tax on banks that received federal bailout money. "She's got your back, her opponent's got Wall Street's back. Bankers don't need another vote in the United States Senate. They've got plenty. Where's yours?"

Excuse me, Mr. President... but... ummm... if you had shown good judgment in October 2008, then you would've voted against the bailout and supported taxpayers. In turn, those banks would have gone belly up and there would be no need for a discussion on your proposed tax. But let's just forget that little bit of history and move on.

Hypocrite indeed. Obama has Wall Street's back by continuing Bush's policies. And Martha Coakley just spent two days in Washington collecting contributions from medical and bank lobbyists.

Republican Scott Brown now leads Dem Coakley for the Mass. Senate seat by nearly 10% !

http://insidemedford.com/2010/01/17/brown-has-96-lead-in-new-poll/

Brown: 50.8 % / Coakley: 41.2
Other: 1.8 / Undecided: 6.2 %

Republican Scott Brown:
"change you can believe in."

So if (hopefully when) Scott wins how soon will he be seated?

I'll believe it when I see it. Intrade has Brown up by 20%!!!

But, we have to watch out for cheating Sgt. Schultz and his ilk.

When will Scott Brown be seated?

The Mass. Dems are talking about 'several weeks' to certify. The Senate Dems are talking about delay tactics while they ram thru Obamacare. If either happens, they will pay dearly.

Excuse me but let's get our history correct. Wasn't it Bush who bailed out the banks.

Bush proposed, Obama (and McCain) supported it.

25 Senators showed good judgment by favoring The Little Guy.

Obama and 73 others favored Wall Street.

Additionally, there were plenty of Senators on both sides of the aisle showing good judgment. From Demint to Bunning and Feingold to Sanders... some of them knew what they were doing. But they all have a populist bent to them.

On the other hand, Obama is a corporatist. Look no further than his sellout to Big Phrma et al on his healthcare bill.

*After Obama Rally, Dems Pin Blame On Bush

As audience members streamed out of Pres. Obama's rally on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D) here tonight, the consensus was that the fault for Coakley's now-floundering MA SEN bid lies with one person -- George W. Bush.

"People are upset because there's so many problems," Rosemary Kverek, 70, a retired Charleston schoolteacher said as tonight's rally wrapped up. "But the problems came from the previous administration. So we're blaming poor Obama, who's working 36 hours a day ... to solve these problems that he inherited."

Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), speaking with a gaggle of reporters after the event, said that while state Sen. Scott Brown (R) offers voters a quick fix, in reality, the problems created by "George Bush and his cronies" are not so easily solved.

"If you think there's magic out there and things can be turned around overnight, then you would vote for someone who could promise you that, like Scott Brown," Kennedy said. "If you don't, if you know that it takes eight years for George Bush and his cronies to put our country into this hole ... then you know we have a lot of digging to do, but some work needs to be done and this president's in the process of doing it and we need to get Marcia Coakley to help him to do that."

(Curiously, Kennedy mentioned Coakley repeatedly during his remarks to reporters, each time referring to her as "Marcia," not "Martha.")

More Kennedy: "One thing the Democrats have done wrong? We haven't kept the focus on this disaster on the Republicans who brought it upon us. We've tried too hard to do that right thing, and that's to fix it, as opposed to spend more of our time and energy pointing the finger at who got us [here] in the first place."

Blaming their problems on Bush does carry a risk for Dems, however -- with their sights so firmly focused on the past, Brown's campaign has managed to wrest the "change" mantle from them.

Meanwhile, even as Kennedy took on both Bush and Brown head-on, some attendees were more muted in their criticism of Brown.

Curiously, (Patrick) Kennedy mentioned Coakley repeatedly during his remarks to reporters, each time referring to her as "Marcia," not "Martha."

Maybe because of the medications he's on for his substance abuse problems (seriously).

Given that this is what the Kennedy legacy has come down to, we shouldn't be surprised by the low caliber of candidate (Coakley) the Dems chose to replace him.
