BOE budget meeting

It's that time of year again... Luther Turmelle (NHR) reported today that the Superintendent will be announcing his budget at Thursday's BOE meeting.

And on a separate topic... someone mentioned the Inland Wetlands voted tonight (5-0) to approve the ND proposal. Can anyone else confirm? And who skipped the vote? I know Matt Bowman was sitting out, but there are seven members. I think it makes sense for Inland Wetlands to approve it... but if I were on PZC, as I've already explained... I'd be voting against the current ND proposal.

Everyone should go to hear the wisdom coming from the Supt tonight. Wait to you hear the proposal this year, if you think the past few years have been a surprise, you will really enjoy this one.

I went to the BOE meeting and the super's proposed budget is now nearly $60 million. In a nutshell he wants .6 more teachers (for reading); this takes into consideration 1 less elementary teacher (believe he said last year they needed one); enrollment is down 85 students overall; wants a Chinese language program; and wants to increase maintenance by nearly 24%; overall budget increase is 7.29%. Florio states this is the biggest increase he's asked for over the past years.
He also stated at the end of his presentation that "We do a phenominal job; we are a great, efficient, effective organization..."
If this is true, then why isn't $55,725,243 enough to continue with? Why does he want $4,063,049 more?

Would this be considered a "rainy day"?? It's 2 million over and they (BOE and TC) will say they cut it and the budget ends up with what he really wanted (2 million). I guess there is no money left from last years budget again? Let's us give the BOE an "A" for budget spending again this year.

For your information there is plenty of money left over. They put it all in the cash flow slush fund better known as the medical trust fund. Come to the first budget meeting held by the town council and you can find out how much. Glad to show you.

What's the date and time for that first TC budget meeting? Not that many people will go, but perhaps you could post the information on Tim's blog so it's out there for all to see.
Thanks.
