Turf may never happen

The turf always seems to evoke many comments. Some people think it's an absolute necessity. Some people think it's an absolute waste. So with the news that $525,000 has been tentatively approved by the State (NHR, by Luther Turmelle), I figured this would be a good time to remind everyone about the history of state grants received by the Town.

On April 30, 2004, the State Bond Commission approved $225,000 for a variety of things at Bartlem Park, including new ballfields. We were told that there'd be a new 90' diamond. And we were told that this would help alleviate problems for the folks in the Wiese Road neighborhood.

And it's been four years. Do we have a new 90' diamond yet? Or perhaps more important...

Is this a demonstration of leadership?
Yes, some things take time.
No, but we need more ink for the rubberstamp!

No 90ft diamond but 90 geese the last time I looked. Looks like the geese moved close to the pool.

I think also that back in 1995 the TC got $80,000 for improvements over at Bartlem Park. (You can check the Bond Commission website for allocations and that's what it said).
So my question is what are we doing with the $225,000 and $80,000?? Is it sitting in some account? And if it's all for improvements at Bartlem Park can it be used towards the pool? That's at Bartlem Park.
The $525,000 that may be coming was described by the Super as "part of a larger appropriation." That money is probably described in the Bond as for "use in buildings/facility/grounds in the program area of "parks/recreation." If you ask me the money should be lumped all together and put towards a permanent roof over that pool. Forget the turf! Fix what needs fixing!

And speaking of bonded funds, when the $100,000 came through for the skate park, did it all go for the skate park? I also understand private fund raising was underway. How much was collected and what happened to that money? Did any excess money get returned to the contributors? Did any excess State money get returned to the State? If not, where is it? I believe the estimated cost to build that skate park was way under the $100,000 that they ended up getting. And if it was designated for use in building the skate park but was not totally used but held on to, can it be used for other "park" improvements?

If we get this money it will never be used for the town as a whole. We have way too many parents in this town that view sports above scholastics & the health of their children. The biggest laugh I ever got was when someone plugging the turf referred to the field as a community field. Since when? One weekend a year for Relay for Life? I can guarantee if this money is appropriated the sports parents will be there fighting for every penny. Who's going to fit the bill in 10 years when this has to be replaced? The State? I think not.

I know. But my current goal is simply to send a message to Washington to get serious about balancing the budget. RP is far from perfect. But I do think he speaks the most clearly on spending.

I want the leaders (Boehner and McConnell) to realize that the R party is fiscally conservative.

Can someone state the other "Community" events that take place on the field other than football, band and relay for life. Thanks

Dumb poll. A simple yes or no would do. Its all about needs and wants not rudders and direction.
