Open forum 1/23

Rep. Mary Fritz is supporting HRC. I believe Uncle Al told me he's supporting Rudy. Anyone know who our other legislators are supporting? How about Council for that matter? I'm uncertain, but I'm pretty sure Tim Slocum isn't supporting Ron Paul (said with a heavy touch of sarcasm).

There's a Solid Waste Committee meeting tomorrow. The agenda includes bulky waste, a composting facility and the Town's solid waste contract with CRRA. If I recall correctly, the contract expires in 2009.

The Chamber of Commerce is having its annual dinner tomorrow night.

From the Take Another Step website: Construction Has Begun !!! The Town of Cheshire begins playground site preparation and equipment has been ordered. As of January 2008 the Kids In Motion playground is an active work in progress! With it's highly anticipated opening in the June 2008 timeframe, the ~38,000 square foot playground will be one of the largest in Connecticut.

As previously mentioned, tomorrow there will be a Cheshire Republican Town Committee meeting and a GOP Presidential debate. I have no idea if Ron Paul will be included, though he and gazillionaire Mitt Romney seem to be the only two Republicans with money.

Regarding the Kids in Motion playground - Do you know what material they're using as a base around all of the playground equipment? The reason I ask is that those rubber tire pellets that are used in the turf field installations are also sometimes used as a base for playgrounds. Since the rubber pellets are known to have cancer causing chemicals/toxins, I hope it won't be used in the playground area. Surely no one would risk the health of the kids...at least not on a playground.

don't worry
my brother-in-law supplies

Lets try to leave te politics out of this wonderful playground. A large portion of the money was raised privately by a loyal committee who wanted to make an accessible playground for kids with disabilites as well as their parents and grandparents who have disabilites.
This will be a state of the art playground. The surface will be a poured in place surface.
Go to their website for more information.
http://www.cheshirekidsinmotion.org
We should ber proud to have such dedicated volunteers in our community who worked hard to get this accomplished.

If Al Adinolfi is supporting Giuliani, he's supporting the wrong candidate. Besides Giuliani's dropping like a lead ballon in Florida, he'll soon have to drop out. I'd think John McCain is closer to Al's views. Check out this McCain video (copy and paste):

I'm kinda hoping Rudy wins Florida. I think it'd make a brokered convention more likely... and that would be fun to watch... and much to their dismay... I doubt the outcome would be driven by the MSM to much of any degree.

What's MSM?

Someone should ask the CCC why has Cheshire lost two businesss recently. One changed its mind and stayed in Naugatuck and the another just decided to move to Bristol. Why is this happening? Did they not want to deal with more traffic in the northend?

Mike Ecke willfully misrepresented himself to the town by falsely claiming he's a CPA. This isn't about politics, this is about basic integrity.

Someone should follow this up and report it to the Maine CPA board. It’s illegal to claim you have professional credentials when you don't.

Also, shouldn't the town council investigate and take some action? Or are they just going to cover his back?

Anonymous said...

I realize Mike Ecke may have falsified his credentials, but shouldn't we be more against the decisions he makes as our representative then what he claims to be? That is between him and his God.

Anonymous said...

It's also between him and the voters. We were lied to. And it's potentially between him and the law.

"Happy Resident" Yes we should be proud but asking a question as to the ground covers safety is fair and doesn't cost a thing. Let's not make the same mistake as the pool. Making this a quality and safe project will benefit all in the long run.

"Someone should ask the CCC why has Cheshire lost two businesss recently"

They are too interested in supporting developers and realtors.

They were early supporter of the text change to the Town Development plan to allow residential into commercial zones while their members were saying they would like to expand, but couldn't find a place to do it in Cheshire. They also said that traffic congestion was a big problem, but the Chamber was a big supporter of the mall that will turn rt 10 into a parking lot.

Bringing and retaining businesses that provide good wages and high tax returns dont seem to be part of their equation. The more dumb growth Cheshire gets, the higher the taxes are on our businesses and the harder it is to stay in Cheshire or attract new companies.

It's a matter of a little common sense.

A SHOCKER

The lone supporter of Dennis Kucinch’s presidential bid said today that he was “stunned” by the Ohio congressman’s decision to withdraw from the 2008 race, calling the decision “hasty and premature.”

Fred Thompson said he had prepared his supporter so he didn't have the same shock effect on his supporter.

Both supporters said they might swing their weight over to Rudy.
Go Rudy, Go Rudy .....

This is the craziest post I've seen in a while besides our nutty poet! It is criminal for anyone to lie and misrepresent themselves to voters! Would you want anything to do with your doctor if you found out he wasn't a real doctor? Would you hire an attorney who claimed to be one but wasn't? Would you vote for anyone who lies and misrepresents themselves?
It is a big deal and he should resign or be removed from office.

I left that post, but I just feel too much is being made over whether he has a CPA license or has it lapsed.
Not very silly if you think about it.
I have more issues with how he votes and what he says then what is hanging on his wall.
It seem that in every post the same people bring that up, aren't there other issues about him besides that.
I am not overlooking that he lied during his campaign, we all know that. I don't think he will be the first politician to embelish his resume', I just think we need to focus on why he shouldn't be representing our town besides that fact. If we can show enough, then we can convince this town that he doesn't belong.

If a person's wrongdoing were simply a matter "between him and his God," then we would have no need for laws, police, or courts.

And even if society were willing to replace the courtroom with the confessional, a necessary step for coming clean with God is coming clean with those he wronged. Has Mike Ecke come clean with the people of the town?

"I have more issues on how he votes and what he says than what is hanging on his wall."

He doesn't seem to say much and always votes his party line as far as I can see.

"If we can show enough then we can convince this town that he doesn't belong."

Maybe you should do an FOI request and look into his past coaching record.

Hey, I know that Esty went to law school but she does not have a license either, so we really have two fakes on the council.

Comments on the Jan 15 MRJ story:

Rt 10 Congestion

David Pelletier, Chairman of the E conomic Commission, Shelden Dill, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Gerald Sitko, Economic Coordinator all supported the W/S’s sprawling mall and residences. They all know route 10 is now impossible, it is over 100% capacity in may places including where the mall is proposed. Inspite of the fact that the Chamber of Commerce members identified the traffic on rte 10 as one of their biggest problems, Pelletier, Dill and Sitko have not commented on what effect the mall will have on an already over capacity road or have they withdrawn their support of the mall. Imagine 3,000 more cars on Saturday. They say the state should do something. That may be true, but it makes no sense to make things much worse by supporting a mall that is not needed or wanted by a the vast majority of the Cheshire residents.

The state should do something? We are the state. The state doesn't have money, the town doesn't and the taxpayers can't afford any more tax increases.

RE: "Esty went to law school but she does not have a license either."

BUT unlike Mr. Ecke claiming to be a CPA, Elizabeth Esty doesn't use JD after her name, nor does she claim or imply that she's a practicing attorney.

The rules governing CPA's in the state of Maine require that they act with INTEGRITY at all times, by "acting honestly, candidly, and not knowingly misrepresenting facts, accommodating deceit, or subordinating ethical principles. Acting with integrity is essential to maintaining the public's trust."

See under Rules of Professional Conduct, Board of Accountancy:

Mike Ecke should either publicly apologize or resign from the council.

Anonymous said...

I think he should do both - apologize and resign.

Anonymous said...

Alertri and Ecke should under good conscience recuse themselves from any decision on turf.Mike Ecke because he really does have a sense of ethics may do so, Matt Alteri cannot spell ethics or define it needs to be told to do so. I would sign my name but the hidden directors o the Town of Cheshire would come after me.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know the provisions in the town charter to recall an at-large member of the town council?

Anonymous said...

You can read the Charter at www.cheshirect.org There's a section on "code of conduct", "investigations" etc. Good luck sorting out the mumble jumble wording!

Anonymous said...

"hidden directors o the Town of Cheshire would come after me."

Are they the realtors and developers?

I know a number of business people are afraid of offending certain developers as they do go after them and their businesses suffer.

Then there are the town employees that are told not to rock the boat. A number have said that they were against the mall, but are afraid to say it publicly as they fear repercussions. It's not an open government.

This last post is really disturbing. It portends a kind of an informal soviet state operating inside and outside of town gov't.

I'm not saying that Mike Milone is involved with this, but how long has he been TM? Shouldn't the occupant of that position be changed every 7 or 10 years just on principle of breaking up entrenched bureaucratic power cliques?

It's sad that in the name of economic growth all the power goes to the developers. It started in New London and it's going on in every Town. They make the rules and the courts go along with it. This is terrible. The rules are change in the middle of the game. How unfair is this??
