Wetlands vote explanation

For anyone who missed it, the NHRs Luther Turmelle reported today why only five of the seven IWWC members voted: Matt Bowman recused himself due to his family's financial interests and Tod Dixon had resigned in relation to becoming a BOE member.

Furthermore, the 5-0 vote was a reflection of the rules... not necessarily the wishes of the entire Commission. Long-time member Charles Dimmick said "Although I personally don't want to see a mall there, I can find no technical reason to deny the application."

Anyone know when the PZC will be voting? Their meeting is normally the second Monday of the month... but I think that's MLK day. Are the even ready to vote yet?

This vote is an outrage
When will all the people of Cheshire wake up
We cannot let this happen it will be the worst thing to happen with bad traffic and we will have to build 2 new schools
Let us re-institute the US Constitution as soon as possible

Another group of people without a backbone. They use "technical" as a reason. Just say no. it violates common sense and best practices.

Come on do you really think we will need to build two schools? You do your cause a disservice.

A road that is 25 feet wide and 12.21 miles long has the same surface area of the proposed mall's impervious surfaces.

That's more than enough to drive the 9.5 miles from town hall to the Brass Mill mall in Waterbury.

The W/S proposal will result in 37 acres being either paved over for parking or roofed over. In any case, these are impervious surfaces that result in total immediate water runoff.

Most people have no idea of the size of 37 acres of impervious surface and most people that have made or will make the decision on this application don't know how significant this is either.

If you can imagine a road that has an equivalent surface area, you get the picture. Since many secondary roads are 25 feet wide, how long of a road would it take to equal the surface area of 37 acres?

To calculate it, multiply 37 acres times the square feet in an acre, 44,560, divide that by a 25 foot wide road to to get the length of the road in feet and then divide that by 5,280 ft in a mile to get the length of the road in miles.

MR = 37 * 43,560 / 25/ 5,280

MR = 12.2 miles of road

Does anyone want to calculate how many gallons of water runoff would result from 1 inch of rain?

One cubic foot of water contains 7.48052 gallons

An acre is 43,560 sq ft.

One gallon of water weighs 8.3453 pounds.

"A road that is 25 feet wide and 12.21 miles long "

That's a long road, but just wait until the other quadrants of the interchange zone are similarly developed. It could be the equivalent of be enough road to go to New Haven and then some.

Where is all the water going to go?

I think a lot of it will go into the ground and will first work its way over to the surrounding private wells and then to the regional wells, not that far away, and we can all drink contaminated water. Most people won't even know.

Thank you developers.

There are too many technical issues that are being overlooked. This is just more rubber stamping.

What a limp excuse Kurtz gave, claiming that the mall would be better than all the dumping that has occurred on this property. I don't know what property he is thinking of, because there is very little on these 107 acres and could be cleaned up easily. The owners, Paul Bowman, Doug Calcagni and Frank DiNatali have not permitted the public to see this land. Maybe it is because it is far from that is portayed. How can Kurtz think 37 acres of asphalt and roofing are better than trees and wildlife?

As far as the damage caused by ATVs and bikes, I hear that the very people that complain about it were also some of the ones whose family members rode those ATV's.

This could be a great park and a wonderful asset to Cheshire.
