Rules for $225,000 for Bartlem Park

Regarding the four-year-old $225,000 state grant that was intended, in part, to build a 90' diamond at Bartlem Park... I understand that these are the permitted uses for the $225,000:(click on the image to enlarge it)

Maybe at the next Council meeting we can get a better understanding of the four year process required for building a 90' diamond. And after we finish the 90' diamond, we can take the balance of the $225,000 and apply it toward putting up a permanent structure over the pool.

But we would need to do it legally. So we'll need to roll up the bubble and leave it in what some may call "the pool building"... I, on the other hand, will call it "the pool bubble storage shed." Ha!

Heck, why not? If the state can claim it has a balanced budget, we ought to be able to claim it's a storage shed. Seriously though... this "state of paralysis" in which the Council apparently finds itself is unacceptable. That energy-wasting bubble is doing nothing to help America achieve energy independence. Action must be taken... more on that in the next few days.

Thanks, Tim, for explaining more about this $225,000. I hope at the next council meeting you'll be able to get a break down on exactly how much of it has been spent and how it's been spent. Also would like to know if the skate park cost $100,000 or was there any leftover money on that.

They should hurry and put a barrier up to protect the spectators and children from the Rt 10 traffic. This is very dangerous.

Last spring I had a conversation with a member of the majority. He told me that there are two "schools of thought" in governing Cheshire.

Basically, one thought was that "everything is fine" and the Council shouldn't ask questions.

Then there was my "school of thought" that the Council has an oversight function to perform.

Clearly, that member believed in the former, not the latter.

On this philosophical difference, there is a chasm between me and others on the Council.

Frankly, it was one of the most disappointing and mystifying conversations I've had as an elected representative of the people.

If you're largely indifferent... or are simply "paralyzed," why bother going to Council meetings?

There is no reason to accept bribe money; that is all this is; when the State in financially insolvent in many accounts. When politicians hand out money for votes it is always a bad thing. How can we build turf fields when schools are falling apart, contractor refuse to build bridges because the State does not pay, the teacher retirement fund is massively underfunded, roads are in sad shape, employment is down, energy costs are too high and businesses are leaving, what am I missing here? On the local level we have a pool that needs correction, we have school buildings that are in terrible shape, RT 42 has yet to be fixed.

Br. You are right but I guess we can all go to the "Commuity Field " and enjoy the green splendor.
