Council agenda 1/8

Here's the agenda for Tuesday's meeting:I haven't read the agenda, so can't comment... though I did see the "fund balance policy" on the agenda as an action item... should be an interesting conversation.

Also... I'm not sure if I'll be able to do much posting for the next few days... maybe one of you would like to do a guest post?

Tim White
Town Council, 4th District

What's with 7 F ? Correction to WPCA terms.

To clean up the mess that the TC made and Tim S tried to take advantage of.

Or maybe it's Elizabeth E. trying to create another "shenanigate."

Was she wrong?

Did she finally give a half hearted apology when she had no other choice but to do so?? I'd say that says it all...that she WAS wrong.

The correction to the WPCA terms was passed by a unanimous vote. There was no discussion by members of either party about there not being a need for this correction. I may be not be a political expert, but it seems to me that this indicates that there was indeed a problem that needed to be rectified and that members of both parties recognized this. It also begs the question about what Elizabeth was being criticized for... bringing this mistake to the town, the council and resident's attention? Do we sweep mistakes under the rug? Or do we do as was done last night, recognize there is a problem and take the necessary steps to fix it.

Elizabeth was criticized for the way she handled things. If she had questions about terms and procedures, she should have spoken with the clerk's office. She didn't. Instead she chose to create her shenanigate dragging the clerk's name through the mud as many people said. Eventually she was forced to apologize. No one apologizes unless they realize they were wrong.

She was right Tim S did something wrong and she knew it.

It is my understanding that the town clerk was approached for clarification. When that clarification could not be provided was when this become a public issue. The republicans deemed this to be 'shenanigate,' went public with this accusation and made it appear as though Elizabeth had went after the Town Clerk for something that had never happened or mistakes that had not been made. I give Elizabeth credit for recognizing public sentiment and indicating that she may have not handled this as well as she could. But, I give her a lot more credit for rectifying an existing problem, with both parties support, regardless of the accusations and name calling that had been thrown her way. Congratulation Elizabeth for having the courage doing the right thing and making sure existing problems are corrected even when that causes you to come under public attack!

Isn't this their elected duty? So why all this back slapping. This should have been discussed and rectified day one. The poor town clerk. At the last TC meeting didn't the TC chairman say something about the "electorate"?

4:43 PM.

You are foolish person and I don't care if you ever cast a vote or another stone my way either. Only a partisin hack would believe I did anything wrong. Nominating chairs don't make appointments they recommend them. Council votes on appointees. I will be more than happy to discuss the matter with you in the light of day.

I harbor no ill will toward anyone involved in this matter except folks like you. This is volunteer stuff.Try it sometime.

5:42... Yes, it is an elected officials job to rectify mistakes that have been made. However, when Elizabeth attempted to do this she was crucified by the other party for having the gall to question the town clerk about how this mistake happened. Remember, the town clerk is a paid employee of the town of Cheshire and therefore should offer explanations to both the TC and the electorate when asked to. The 'back slapping' is simply recognition that Elizabeth did her elected duty even though it caused her to come under attack. Not every elected offical would have, or has, done the same.

Problem was that she NEVER questioned the town clerk. She announced that an investigation was going to take place for what she believed to be wrong doing. Watch the tapes. She purposely created a scandal claiming there was shenanigans going on.

You can't twist the truth. Watch the tapes from the meetings.
