Pat's driving

US Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) is supporting Chris Dodd for President. And now if Chris Dodd can secure an endorsement from State Rep. Pat Dillon (D-New Haven), I'm sure he'll be a shoo-in for endorsements from some groups, such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Students Against Drunk Driving.

Btw, Pat Dillon still has her title "Asst Majority Leader" and the "raise" that comes with it. Have any members of the House Democratic caucus publicly called for Speaker Amann to remove her title?

Back to Dodd though. Obviously, anyone can endorse anyone. And Kennedy's endorsement of Dodd probably has little to do with the Senator. So just to be clear, I don't see this as a reflection on Sen Dodd. But I do see drunk driving incidents as reflections on the body politik and all body members who fail to take a stand.

Kennedy ultimatley pleaded guilty to driving under the influence but it was never determined to be alcohol that influenced his behavior and their is evry indication that it was theprescription Ambien that did.

this issue has no bearing on Dodd and the chance to be president
Let us get to much bigger issues here and forget the bullshit

The problem with Ambien is an issue but agreed that the issue has little bearing on Dodd's presidential run. Just trying to engage with the blogmeister here.

Or should we talk about W's past drinking problem that almost ended hi marriage when Laura told him it was her or Jim Beam but not both? Or maybe Cheyney's DUI's?

I wish Dodd all the best with his bid. Personally, I doubt he'll get the dem nomination. But then, I doubted Chris Murphy would unseat Nancy Johnson. We all know what happened with that.

This post wasn't really about Dodd. I mentioned that endorsements often have little to do with a candidate.

And this post wasn't intended to be about Ds or Rs.

Rather, this post was directed at incumbents who fail to do what they should do... call for consequences for their counterparts who break the law.

As for dui vs. drunk driving... even Patrick Kennedy said "It says on the directions: Do not operate heavy machinery under this drug" (see above link) So while i agree on the above clarification, it doesn't refute my point about our elected officials failing to do what is right. And by that, I mean both our officials who DUI and their counterparts who fail to take action against their counterparts.

Bush I know all about. That was all known before being elected President (as for his stint as Governor... that's the business of TX)

Cheney? When? I never heard about that?

You obviously didn't understand the link that explianed even forensic types recognize that Ambien Zombies don't do what they do. As for Kennedy, he pleaded guilty and asked for no special treatment and got none.

1:15... read the first link before... just read your link now.

Very interesting piece. Thanks for adding it here. It does speak to a growing problem of non-drinking DUI incidents.

I guess my point here is this... while in elected office, we (other members of a given body) should hold our own members to an additional standard... that is, Pat Dillon should lose her title and the related pay. And her counterparts... the Dem House caucus should make that happen as they are the ones who give her that title.
