Huckabee is in

Having been mentioned a few times on this blog, I thought I'd mention that Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR) has officially thrown his hat in the ring... he's running for President (AP). I don't much of anything about him, but this article makes it clear that he's hoping to win the conservative wing of the Republican party... a group that seems to be disinterested in the two most recognizable names, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.

The article also mentions the other candidates vying for conservative Republican vote:

Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, a favorite son of the religious right, is already in the race. Other conservatives, such as California Rep. Duncan Hunter and Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo, will battle for their share of the vote.
I'm not yet sure who I'll support, but I do greatly admire the always principled stance of Texas Rep. Ron Paul.

Huckabee is the only GOP candidate I will support. Of course I will vote for anyone against Hillary Clinton, but as logn as Huckabee is the candidate for the GOP, he has my vote. However if its anyoen other than Huckabee and the Democratic candidate isnt Hillary, the DEms will get my vote.

The GOP has become as corrupt today as the DEMS were when they were defeated in 1994.......

I wouldn't count out any Republican at this point.

If the three front-runners at this point are McCain, Giuliani & Romney... I'd argue that any of the three of them could very easily falter for different reasons...

McCain has problems if Iraq does not improve.

Rudy (who I think was incredible in the composure he displayed following Sept 11) faces real questions about choices in his personal life.

Romney, from what I've read, has been all over the map on "social conservative" issues.

So I really don't believe that any of these "unknowns" (Huckabee, Hunter, Brownback, Tancredo & Paul) are out yet.

Yeah, we need a blble belter out there to tell us how to live our lives...at least Rudy knows he has no business trying to do THAT!

Maybe the GOP cooking oil caucus will back Jared, oops, Mike Huckabee

Anon 4:12, Huckabee has no chance, he is out of touch? According to whom? Your left wing liberal opinion. Fact is Huckabee, if you knew anythign about the man is quite mainstream. I sense you simply are something of a religious bigot, that is you fault him for his religious background and beliefs. However if you knew anything about the man you would know he has never soughty to impose his beliefs on others beyond what is moral or legally acceptable.

The GOP will lose the White house with Huckabee or any of the religious rightwing as the nominee.

And before someone accuses me of being anti-religion, I'm a mostly conservative, practicing Catholic, thank you.

The ideal ticket, the winable ticket, would be McCain-Guiliani.

McCain will have to distance himself from Bush on Iraq if this latest surge doesn't bring results. But McCain has a long enough history of independence from Bush and "special interests" that we can win in November.

I strongly disagree with McCain on illegal immigration, and am closer to Tancredo on that. But my overriding concerns are character, maturity, and moderate conservativism. McCain has all three.
