Council update 1/9
Tomorrow's meeting has had two items removed: the fire station and the legislative package.
The fire station is getting further reviewed by the Public Buildings Commission.
The legislative package is getting referred to the Council Budget Committee. I'm fine with that. I just hope none of my fellow Councilmen ask me, as a member of the Budget Committee, to use the legislative package as an opportunity to make a motion to request money from the state for the linear park.
Although the request has not been mentioned to me, I have heard that at least one member of the Council continues to actively pursue the linear park.
Tim White
Town Council, Budget Committee
p.s. and totally unrelated to tomorrow's Council meeting, I was told that the MRJ will be running an article on "biodiesel in Cheshire" in tomorrow's paper!

Who is asking for rail trail money?
Which party wants to lose this fall?
The people spoke in the last election, no more money for the trail. Or will this be another attempt to try, try and try again until we get what want, just like the pool.
sounds lik the ppol all over again.
Who we need to know now who it is!
he is better known as DS
Schrumm?
yes
Really?
He would never spend money on that project, he won't spend money on anything. He was the zero school budget, he wants not development so I doubt that we would want to spend money on this. It must be Hall.
visconti? it's her district.
You want to know why the Republican Party is an embarrassment in Cheshire?
The self-appointed Cheshire Republican party leader Schrumm wants to spend a million dollars on Linear Park, even after the public said no in 2005.
He against the fire department, against development, against public school spending, against the skate board park, against private funding of the ball fields, he belittles the elderly, and tries to bully anyone who disagrees with his point of view.
He has even alienated Tim White, who is the only young and intelligent Republican on the town council.
At least it is entertaining to watch councilwoman Elizabeth Esty make him look like a fool when he stretches the truth, and makes up statistics at council meetings.
He cost the Republicans the council majority in 2001 and 2005, and he will do it again in 2007.
Are there any other voices in the Republican Party in Cheshire?
Mr. Schrumm has cultivated a reputation of being a fiscal conservative but that is far from the truth. No money for schools but 500k for the lin trail. Fully supports all the money for the pool but none for other forms of recreation.
Makes up the story at the council meetings and is actually angry when called on the spot for this.
Can't build any coalitions outside of Orsini and Ruocco (Ruocco follows Schrumm no matter what).
Wow-so it was Schrumm who is asking for Trail mony?
I thought he hated aking fro mony from the state? Dint he get really pissed when those parents asked for money for the turf?
Oh boy what a hippirite.
He thinks that the trail is a great project but the turf is a waste of money. He thinks that we should only take State money for his projects.
So it was GWSchrumm and his buddies pushing the rail trail?
DCR is right.
I guess the Republicans want to lose again.
It's obvious that some people want Schrumm gone - Dems probably. But these are all ANONYMOUS accusations. Where's the proof that Schrumm wants to "spend a million dollars on Linear Park, even after the public said no in 2005" ?
Anon 5:36 I agree with you. It's obvious this whole thing w/postings about Mr. Schrumm and the other postings about the "angry white men" are done by dems who are just trying to stir things up and try to effect the next election. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if these postings were by dems on the TC...who else would go to so much trouble to continually write such crap?

Skip the speculation.
Keep us posted.
And Schrumm requested 500K for the Lin Trail from the state leg. Ask Tim he will tell you he knows what is going on-Come on Tim spill the beans,
George W Schrumm is my hero
Better to ask the state for 500K for the linear trail that will benefit the entire community than to ask for 850K for a turf field that will only benefit a few.
truthseeker...
at the next budget comm meeting I'll ask the town manager if anyone has requested funding for the linear park.
anon 5:14...
as I wrote in my post "the request has not been mentioned to me" firsthand.
"we're on a trial to nowhere"
Elect David Byrne to the Town Council
Money for field turf will directly benefit the citizens of Chehire. The numbers of citizens who will use it over the next 10 years will be much greater than the number of trail users. Both are good rec and sports projects its just that one will have more 'takers" than the other. One project had dozens show up at a council meeting to request while the other went down in flames at referendum-(remember the people have spoken).
