Meccariello's replacement is decided

From the MRJs Jesse Buchanan:

SOUTHINGTON - Democrats nominated former Cheshire Town Council Chairman Matt Hall Wednesday evening to face Republican Matt Jalowiec for the combined probate court judge seat.

Hall, unanimously chosen by delegates from the Cheshire and Southington Democratic town committees, will replace candidate and Southington probate Judge Bryan Meccariello, who dropped out of the race this week.

But to me the problematic part of the story is near the end.

Southington DTC Chairman John Moise said that getting behind one candidate was important for Democrats in both towns and that Southington Democrats were in favor of Hall's nomination. "We didn't want a big battle, not this late in the game," he said.

Meccariello should've dropped out of the race sooner and there should have been a primary.

I always felt that Matt Hall, when he served as Council Chairman, displayed a condescending attitude towards the people who spoke before the council. The last thing we need is a new judge with the same attitude.

Is he seeking this job because the real estate market is down? I'm not sure he has much experience in probate as his main business has been real estate and doing work for realtors and developers.

Wasn't he pushing hard in support of W/S mall?

Would have, could have, should have... You're worried because now the Dems have the superior candidate. You should have been worried when most of your town committee supported a candidate not even two years out of law school and a Repub for a very few short months! Talk about a waste of time.

Where was Matt Hall when the other Democrat was violating that old woman's rights? Mmmmm. Now that he was caught they prop up another one in his place. Different face, same game. Wake up people. Dems supporting Dems to the end. Not suprising.

If anyone needs a wake up, it's you! Why in the world would Matt Hall have anything to do with a Southington Probate Court case? You definitely need to get informed.

If Matt Hall had run for Council last year, he would have been voted out along with every other incumbent Dem. I just don't see the voters electing him probate judge. Our memories of his ineptitude on the TC aren't that short.

Matt Hall is Cheshires's bright light. There is not a mean bone in his body. You can trust him with your estate.

RE: "You can trust Matt Hall with your estate."

Its hard to imagine anyone as corrupt as Meccariello, but didn't Matt Hall, as a real estate lawyer, have conflicts of interest with the northend development, Richmond Glen, and real estate developers? At any rate, Hall lacks the probate experience of Matt Jalowiec.

Deep down inside Matt Hall is a good person, but he is a lawyer. If the D"s though hr would be the best candidate they would have nominated him. So now out of desperation the D's have nominated him and hope based on his past voter approval for Cheshire he will win. If there was an ounce if decency in the D party they would have accepted the resignation of their candidate and allow the other guy to to be elected by default to the position. But the two majority parties cannot allow things like this to happen. How sad

MATT Win hand down!

Why did the Dems not come out and condem the actions of Mecariello? They sat in the passenger seat and went over the cliff with him. Jalowiec has been in this since day one. He beat the nominated candidate 2-1. Based on the way things were going he had Meccariello beat bad. Now we have a 30 day candidate? People will not forget Mr. Hall's positions and the damage he and his party did to Cheshire while he was chairman.

Is Hall going to resign his law partnership or treat this as a $100,000 part time job?

Shouldn't a Probate Judge have some experience in dealing with wills and estate planning to properly do the job?

Tim--you know both candidates, could you tell us about their legal backgrounds?

I thought Matt H was more of a real estate attorney. I don't see how that prepares him to be a probate judge.

Who can forget when Mr. Hall banged his head repeatedly with a gavel to express boredom, and when he used the name of G*d to curse someone while presiding over the council.

These were done publicly, on TV, and deeply offended many people (he never apologized for his public cursing). Hope he'd exercise more self-control and maturity from the judge's bench.

" Not sure why any one in their right mind would vote for Matt Hall.
1. He's a career politician. The office of Probate is supposed to be unbiased.
2. His parting "gift" to the town of Cheshire as Town Council leader was passing the 4% increase to the Teachers Union that we are now dealing with and its a nightmare
3. Why didn't Matt Hall step up months ago? The information regarding Meccariello's possible Censure was public long before even the primaries happened. If this Man truly cared about the people he would have chosen to run against Meccariello for the partie's nomination.
4. While he is a practicing lawyer, he does not have a lot of probate experience (per his public record) and has left more than one firm under unfavorable circumstances.

Lay off Matt. Matt is going to win.

Yeah, Matt JALOWIEC is going to win.
Won't even be close. Higher Republican turnout in both towns, Southington voters disgusted by Meccariello (it will rub off on the D's), and Cheshire voters with long memories. Poor Matt Hall will have to go back to serving his masters, the real estate developers.

Jalowiec has been a probate attorney for ten years I think. I saw he gives estate seminars at the senior center recently. Hall's been a real estate developers attorney for as long as anyone can remember besides on council. Why is Hall jumping in at the last minute? Seems kinda opportunist to me since he's not even that type of attorney. AND I did see his condescending displays on TV with the hammer! Reminded me just like Meccariello. Two pretty self righteous and pompous guys if you ask me.

Meccariello = Developer Attorney
Hall = Developer Attorney

We all know how it ended in Southington...

Ha, ha, ha...................
Why quit the firm? He'll simply pick up a $100,000 part-time job and continue merrily serving his developer/realestate clientle.

If someone is unwilling to work full time as Probate Judge they should someone else who does have the job
