BOE votes to waive bid on school bus contract

From the NHRs Luther Turmelle:

The Board of Education is asking the Town Council to allow it to waive putting the school district’s transportation contract out to bid.

The board
voted unanimously Thursday to forward its request to the council.

This contract is in the ballpark of 1.5 million. There is no way that this bid can be waived for 5 years. I know there has got to be the chance of a better offer out there. Put it out to bid and lets see what comes back.

4% of 1.5 million is 60,000. 60,000 x 5 years = 300,000

Gee....thats what we are saying about the trash hauling bid too....

Well, like the council decided, our tax dollars are expendable and there is no such thing as a good deal. Maybe when the bids come back, we won't be able to put water in the pool and can solve that problem at the same time.

If they were willing to charge less than the current cost, it might be O'K, but if they want more then it should go out to bid.

Are you willing to go to work for 5 years and then tell your boss you would work for less? The current offer is 4% more than current. The B of E claims that Cheshire will not get a better bid. (same claim made about the trash contract). Council refused a 1 year extention so now they will refuse a 5 year. This week they the council will discuss an unfinished budget where the numbers proposed will not be the finalized numbers. This is starting to look like fraud to me.

No, I am not willing, but guess what, in tough economic times our bosses are telling us we are in a pay freeze or asking us to take a cut.
You don't get it DeVylder....read our Town Charter so you undestand how business is suppose to be done.
The only fraud I see here is you!

If the Boe is claiming they're getting the best deal possible and claim that other towns' recently settled transportation contracts are much higher, then the Boe needs to specifically state which towns those are and what costs were associated with their new contracts. If they can't do that then there's no way the TC should waive the bid.

I understand that the budget has to be presented by a certain date. But it is suppose to be a budget that contains workable numbers and can be put into effect. I can understand if there was a $1000 difference but we are talking about 2.3 million (ballpark) As I asked before, what services are we going to risk later to cover increases that were not set?

How am I a fraud?

How am I a Fraud?

How about flip flopping on bid versus no bid.
You wanted your friends at AJ's to get a no bid contract yet you argue about the bus company getting the same thing...

You think there is fraud involved in the TC because they don't have all the contracs in place before they finish the budget. How is that fraud? It is more incompetence by some TC members who let it go this far.

It is amazing that in this election year, they are being that incompetent. Perhaps they are all stepping down.

AJ's 1 year extension was to continue services due to the solid waste committee's failure to get a new 5 year contract into place. This was stated at the onset of this discussion. Anything more I would be against. The bus company wants a 5 year extension in effort to prevent compitition from presenting offers. Hell, I would favor a maximum of 6 months extensions only.

This town needs to get a policy into place that makes someone responsible for getting RFP's out and returned in time for the budget hearings.

How is this potentially fraud? Would you buy a car if the dealer put most of the numbers infront of you and said there may be more charges coming? I know I would stop all discussions until the final price was totaled. Leaving this much money on the table allows the council to quietly remove and add services at a later date possibly with little public realization.

History has shown that doing a budget or project in this mannor has done nothing but cost the town more money.

Please show us the history....

You are so full of yourself.
Why don't you run for office if you think everyone is doing such a terrible job.

It is obvious you have a personal grudge against Tim that you won't disclose, you also have a personal relationship with AJ's, that you won't discuss.
I am sure we have had other budgets that had to be made without having all the costs in, this isn't unususal. It is a shame the TC didn't move on it faster, but at least they are trying to do the right thing.

How long have you lived in town? Pool, high school, pump stations, roads,

I already explained my relationships. Get someone to read it to you.
