Richmond Glen (Serenity Ranch) easement not ready for the Council
Over the past two days, I started explaining some of the background to the proposed Richmond Glen development (see here and here).
Did any of you see the donnybrook tonight? Frankly, I didn't understand why it was on the Council's agenda. As far as I know, it never went to a Council subcommittee... even though it came to the Council four or five years ago. Nope. It wasn't ready for the Council tonight. And I think David Schrumm made a very good point tonight. There are people sitting behind the dais who want these things to fly under the radar and want to avoid discussion... just as it happened that one late night back in early 2008... probably after midnight... when the Council was advised of an issue coming before the state... but it was no big deal... and there was no need for Council to consider it. It was probably best if everyone went home that night.
Mr. Schrumm made a very good point. And I suspect it's an issue of which people will learn a great deal more in the weeks and months ahead.
For a peek into where Mr. Schrumm was headed, see this document from CTs Office of Policy and Management. The document speaks of "Serenity Ranch." And based on the description, it seems as though Serenity Ranch and Richmond Glen are the same thing. And if I'm reading it correctly, it seems to say that on April 2, 2008, OPM opposed making the changes that provided the enabling legislation for this project.
And here's another State-related document dated April 21, 2008.
Here's the minutes to the Council meeting on February 13, 2008. The Town Manager mentions Serenity Ranch in his report, but it doesn't mention anything about the Council going to the State to offer its view.
Here's a December 21, 2005 NHR piece by Luther Turmelle. It explains that Brodach and Montana-based Serenity Ranch sued the Town and the WPCA over sewage treatment issues. Recall the sewer moratorium?

Please tell us that Mr. Schrumm is considering a return to the Council, We need someone like him in times like this.
What a town we live in. Lets change the name of the development and maybe the TC is so dumb they won't notice. Thank God for people like David Schrumm.
I think those on the TC who represent any builders in this town should recuse themselves from discussions like this. As we all know, these builders and developeers are all connected in one way or another.
Mr Dill should bow out of ANY further discussion on this issue since Brodach is a member of the Chamber and his dues go to pay Mr Dill's salary.
Even a dim bulb like Mr Dill should be able to see THAT as a conflict of interest.
Bankers, lawyers, Chamber of Commerce directors, and waitresses should not be speaking about anything. They can all be in a conflict of interest if they do a closing, lend money, help the builder, or serve them a drink.
