Retirement plan offered to some Town employees

From the MRJs Jesse Buchanan:

The town is offering retirement incentives to employees to cut costs but is retaining the option to refuse the requests.

Town manager Michael Milone said the offer is a cost-saving measure by the town.

The retirements must also save more than the cost of the incentives. Employees might also have saved vacation and sick leave which would have to be paid out and might cut into the town's savings."

If the savings aren't there, it doesn't make sense," Milone said. He was not sure how many employees would retire.

I think the TMs idea has a lot of merit. But I'm also leary of finding $10 in savings today, while incurring $8 in costs tomorrow. A net savings? Yes, but it'd effectively transfer those costs to our pension plan which is already underfunded. Then $8 would need to be transferred to the pension plan in order to act responsibly.

Retire the Town Manager and save 140k a year. He could be replaced by or with, ah you fill in the blank at a much lower cost.

I think it is B.S. that the teachers get a raise and the police dept. has their o/t slashed. Did anyone else see that we have the lowest paid police force in the area? The guys and gals that keep us safe should be rewarded more than those that work half a year.

Retire the town manager? Remember, the council picks him and he does what the council says.

The TM should do what is right for the people of Cheshire and not give in to the majority party (D or R). After all the elections are close every time. So do what is right and get a good nights sleep...

The council picks the manager so any problems you have with him you have with the council. He does what they say to do.
