MRJ on schools & linear park

From the MRJs Jesse Buchanan:

CHESHIRE -- Police arrested three youths at a Cheshire High School student dance on Saturday, including one who police say spit in an officer's face... A 15-year-old Southington resident was charged with assault on a police officer.

CHESHIRE -- The Board of Education may change
the responsible Internet use policy for the district to allow students' work and images to be posted online.

SOUTHINGTON -- Among $163 million in federal stimulus transportation money approved Monday by Connecticut's Recovery Working Group is $3.35 million to
extend the town's bikeway 2 miles from West Main Street to the Cheshire town line, Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced. The projects were approved, Rell said, to create jobs on statewide bus and rail projects and enhance pedestrian and bicycle access.

I'll need to find out if we got all our ducks in a row on the stimulus package.

After a week like CHS had, why not consider cancelling all social activities? These kids need to see that the B.O.E., the police, and the community are not going to stand for this. Cancel all proms, picnics, and trips for the remainder of the year. They can try again next year.

$3 million for a linear park in Southington?

My that is the sort of investment in our economic future that's worth borrowing trillions of dollars from Beijing for!

Unfortunatly for Southington, the trail will end at a tree.

It's fitting for the Obama economic policy. Leads everyone to a dead end

Nothing in the article about the West Main St. crossing for the Linear park trail. How will a crossing design be chosen? How long will it take to finalize a design? Will state/fed funds cover it?

I have to disagree with Mr DeVylder. The headline could be: 99% of kids go to dance and have good time with no problems.

RE: the 15 year old was charged with assault on a police officer.

When I was his age (not that long ago), this 'youth' would have learned a lesson on the spot from the cop, and then a bigger lesson at home from dad.

But now we have a generation of parent-enablers who will stick up for Johnny no matter what he does. No wonder so many youth lack a healthy respect for authority.

Back in the 80's, a popular liberal bumper sticker proclaimed, Question Authority.

A more fitting bumper sticker today would proclaim Question Anarchy (cultural and social do-whatever-you-want).

Most of the world still spanks their kids when they misbehave. Corporal punishment can be appropriate if not overdone.

If my kid ever spit at or assaulted a cop, I guarantee that would be the LAST time he ever did so.
