Capital bgt (Parks & Rec)
I got word tonight that next week's capital budget meetings have each been rescheduled to begin a bit later than previously announced. Both meetings will still be held next Monday/Wednesday though... public hearing on the cap bgt is still scheduled for Tuesday.
Here's the Town Manager's proposed 5-yr capital budget for Parks & Rec:
$60,000 in year one for an ultraviolet contraption to clean the water:
$350,000 in year two to extend the linear trail:
$110,000 in year two to dredge Mixville pond:

no one cares about the capital budget
Well, if that's true, then it's even _more_ important for Tim to put up great posts like this. :)
You say,
"no one cares about the capital budget"
The Democrats are counting on it.
Add up the numbers "no one cares". No one cares because no one knows. Very little publicity. Thanks Tim and CSH. Why don't they make the dates available more than one week in advance. They are counting on "NO ONE" to show up and say no one cares. How clever. Well there are people WHO CARE...
"Very little publicity"
Talk about shenanigans, this is the way our town govt is directed to operate. Keep the residents in the dark.
All we need to do is trust them, they know what is best and at least a few will benefit.
I can't believe they want to spend that much to tile the pool. Tim, hasn't the pool been painted once already? Why would it be peeling or chipping already? I could see maybe getting that ultra violet lighting if it means less corosive chemicals are needed. If that's the case, then maybe a new paint job done properly would last longer and it must be a lot cheaper than doing the tile.
Tim, hasn't the pool been painted once already? YES. WHEN IT WAS BUILT.
Why would it be peeling or chipping already? PERHAPS IT STARTED AFTER THE POOL WAS PAINTED, BUT BEFORE IT HAD WATER? NOT SURE.
I'VE HEARD A PAINTING WOULD COST $60,000 AND LAST FIVE YEARS. THE TILING WOULD COST $340,000 AND LAST 25 TO 30 YEARS.
The request for 350k to extend the trail from Cornwall to West Main should only be approved if there is an agreement between the Town and the Landowner for access. Take this request, combined with the new plan to fix the culvert on West Main, sounds like a questionable. The voters turned down the 900k two years ago in the referendum to go from West Main to Jarvis, yet when you read the info on the page it is still there..why?
no one cares about the capital budget, NO ONE
