3 Strikes Rally

The 3 Strikes Rally has been set for Wed Aug 15 at 7pm. As it stands, we have a capital budget meeting scheduled for that night at 6pm.

I hope the organizers invite all of Cheshire's legislators to this. I especially want to know where my rep, Vickie Nardello, stands.

She's been soft on crime and illegal aliens in the past, but maybe now she'll agree that after their 10th or 20th convictions, these two should have been locked up for life.

This is one rally I would not miss. Connecticut took too long to pass Jessica's law, Hopefully we will do better this time.
The next step is to fast track the death penalty. It shouldn't take twenty years to execute someone who is convicted of a capitol offense on overwhelming evidence.

Rep. Vickie Nardello has consistently voted to abolish the death penalty, most recently on March 30:

Fortunately, it's still in place to deal with these two child rapist-murderers and others like them.

Lou Murray, you're absolutely right about fast tracking appeals on the DP, especially where there is NO DOUBT of guilt.

I'm sure Ms. Nardello will disagree, but she's out of touch with the voters on these issues.

Any one else notice the absolute silence on this issue from the Democrat legislators from Prospect, Meriden and Wallingford who purport to "represent" Cheshire

Maybe one of their kids can get hired at the DOC as a consultant and then they'll be for tough law enforcement

There are no simple solutions.

It doesn't make sense to impose life sentences no-violent crimes.

I do believe that the justice department should police itself better to look for the carreer criminals and to lengthen their sentences.

Maybe 3 Strikes/ life in prison shouldn't apply to most non-violent crimes, but burglary while the occupants are home should be classified as "violent" for the purposes of 3 Strikes.

When a burglar enters a house where the occupants are sleeping, he is running the risk of causing serious bodily injury should the occupants awaken. Like entering a bank with a gun, he may not intend to use the gun, but he causes the risk.

My guess is these two committed at least 3 prior burglaries while the occupants were at home. A 3 Strikes law would have kept them locked up for life before they could have harmed the Petits.

I personally like the idea of enforcing the 3 strikes law and changing burglary to a violent crime. My issue is where do we warehouse these dregs of society? Do my Cheshire neighbors want to open up some 400 available beds close to home? I say YES!!! It might be time to rethink the prison advisory committees goals

We had plenty of prison space until the bleeding hearts made us stop sending convicts to VA

Better we send them to Mars than let them roam the streets here, which is how the folks running Hartford want to do things

At minimum after conviction for the third time for any combination of crimes you should executed. Secondly, if you commit a crime with a gun, even if no one is injured, the penalty is death. This should happen on the first offense.

Would this law have kept the two people that did this terrible act in jail, or would this have been just one more strike?

I think the 2 losers would have struck out earlier in the game of life...
