This afternoon
Just got this email from the Town Manager:
Council Members, The Police are currently on the scene of a domestic incident that occurred at a house on Norton Lane(off of Cheshire St near Meriden Rd.) Around noon today about shots were fired in the house and then there was silence. Two teenagers, who were relatives of the shooter, witnessed the incident and escaped unharmed. It appears a man shot two of his relatives ,both women, and then might have also shot himself. There is likely one, and maybe addtional fatalities. The Police Special Response Team is gaining access to the house at this time and is being provided with some special camera equipment from the State Police. When I have more information I will transmit it.-Michael A. Milone

I cannot fathom why you would think this - an obvious tragedy - is an appropriate post for this blog.
Just wanted to share the information.
No word on whether any CPD personnel got hurt?
Given my wife was diverted from Rt 70 early this afternoon it is a pertinent issue indeed
According to WFSB, they just found the suspect "dead of an apparent self-inflicted wound."
so sad. But no word of any injuries to CPD.
UPDATE:
Council Members, Chief Cruess called me about 30 minutes ago to inform me that three people were found dead in this house. Apparently the shooter,a 51year old male, killed his wife and step daughter, then took his own life. Our police are pretty sure of the relationship of these three individuals but are still sorting through everything that happened. The Cheshire P.D. found the two female victims earlier this afternoon, using a camera on a long extension, provided by the State Police. However, our P.D. couldn't immediately locate the shooter, and were limited in their access to the interior of the house ,fearing the shooter was still alive. At one point our police were concerned that the shooter might have fled the scene and announced that possibility on the 6:00pm news.
Our police were eventually able to locate the deceased shooter, when the State Police brought in a dog from their canine unit. The dog was sent into the house and located the dead shooter, at which time the Cheshire police were able to gain access to this residence and to begin to piece this tragedy together.-Michael
The boys left behind are just in 7th and 9th grade. They will need our prayers.
Heart of Jesus overflowing with compassion and healing, have mercy on these poor people, the victims and the survivors.

TOTALLY unecssary to post any information regarding this situation. Sure you get this information but there are somethings you should NOT be blogging and left to be confidential. Leave that to the Media. Total lack of professionalism from a Town Councilman
"At one point our police were concerned that the shooter might have fled the scene and announced that possibility on the 6:00pm news. Our police were eventually able to locate the deceased shooter"
That is VERY relavant to my family, considering that we live nearby.
Thank you Tim. You didn't do anything wrong.
8:37 and what is "confidential?" He didn't give any names.
- May God bless all of those who have passed on to the afterlife, and may he grant strength and peace to the survivors of friends, loved ones.
I disagree with Anon 8:37's assertion that Tim shouldn't have reported this incident here.
This blogsite is not only an opinion board, but it's become a timely source of town news. We'll often see it here before seeing it in the paper. If he hadn't reported it here, I wouldn't have learned of this tragic incident until tomorrow. And I don't see anything confidential about Mike Milone's memo. Tim just reported the facts, without comment. Nothing "unprofessional" about that.
I'm also praying for the victims and survivors as well as members of the PD who have to deal with these situations.
there's a big diff between tabloid senastionalism and informing the public with facts.....this was stuff that needed to get sent out
