ND proposal gaining support
The proposal for the northend is gaining support. Earlier today, two groups voted in favor of moving the process forward.
First the Economic Development Commission unanimously endorsed the idea of considering changes to the northend (6-0-1). EDC members voting in support were Dave Pelletier (Chairman, R), Bea Fiorino (R), Kathleen Gannon (D), Arthur Hostage (D), Brian Miller (D) and Bob Occialini (R). Lelah Campo (R) was absent.
Then the Government Relations Committee of the Chamber of Commerce voted (10-1) in favor of the considering changes to the northend. Jim Miele and Jon Lesky co-chaired the meeting and both voted in favor of the proposal.
I didn't go to either meeting, so can't add many details... including the exact wording of either motion. But perhaps one of you went? I'm curious to hear more about both meetings.

This goes to show that after all the negative stuff that middle of the road cheshire citizens can act rationally and think logicly about this project. There will be plenty of endorsements in the near future-just wait.
This thing is going all the way! Nothing like free enterprise and free markets in the good old uSA!
Tim - I finally found your blog. I think it is a great way for people to exchange ideas. I do think it would be more productive if people signed their names to their comments, but overall I think this is very good. Great idea and thank you for putting in the time to put this together.

Michael... glad you found us! Now a couple of things...
first... about signing names... click the "other" button and you can sign your name, without signing up for blogger.
Second, I'm pretty sure that you're the liaison to EDC. Did you go to the meeting today? If so, can you give a brief update?
9:40 You finally found Tim's blog?? Or you finally decided to put your name to your comments?
So, Mike, what do you think of the northend development? Are you in favor of both retail and residential?
How about the turf field? Are you in favor of that?
Please explain your answers too.
Thanks!
I really like the north end plan. As a lifelong Republican I can say that my party should be fully supporting this project. Last I checked we were the party of free enterprise and having govt get out of the way so business can thrive.

WERE
Cheshire "republicans" believe in:
regional planning
Cheshire "republicans" hate:
deregulation of the northend
Cheshire "democrats" believe in:
local control
Cheshire "democrats" hate:
burdensome regulations
When this project is completed I hope we can all see how this is a good thing for Cheshire and and good thing for our towns $$ situation.
Democrats are for reasonable discussion of the plan to get the north end going
Republicans (yet not all) will try to do anything to de-rail but it won't work. Crying wolf wont get it done.
Great letter from Brian miller in the herald. He told the truth about Schrumm.
Doesn't Schrumm have a conflict of interest here. His position as a major offical in the land trust organization would put him in conflict with any open space or development. he should recuse himself from any and all discussions on open space and north end development.
anon 6:24, 8:33 and others...I am curious why you are so psyched about this? Do you like to shop and would like someplace more convenient or do you see the mill rate in town decreasing from all the tax revenue? If its the tax revenue..how much are we going to recv and how long will it take for us to break even from the expenses that the town will have from increasing services, road repairs etc....I'm not realy for or against this but it seems like people think this is going to solve all financial problems for the town and as far as I know...we dont even know exactly what is going in therE SO i'M NOT SURE HOW ANYONE CAN SAY RIGHT NOW THAT THERE WILL BE AN IMMEDIATE BENEFIT OR WHAT IT MAY BE>>>>>>>>
I like to shop and if the mill rate goes down then fine. I never thought this would solve any tax problems.
Is the Cheshire Republican Party becoming CAVE men?
Is seems as if many GOP officials in Cheshire can be defined as CAVE men – Citizens Against Virtually Everything.
I think they call it fiscally conservative....I'm for giving the boundless playground the TURF money thats being talked about...
CAVE this is a good one/ Maybe the Republican party will wake up and realize that some day they are being led by men who are so angry and bitter that it is killing them. Then they might see that moderate candidates are winners in town elections not right wing nut jobs that are anti everything. We can't win that way. My opinion-the council will be 6-3 or 7-2 by the end of the year. Oh, Democrat majority.
