Ballfields proposal

Rich Kaplan gave the Council another presentation on the proposal from the newly formed CYB.

Here is Milone & McBroom's rendition of the proposal for the ballfields at the corner of Jarvis & Highland.... Highland/Rte 10 runs along the lower edge of the drawing.

Why do we need this? I am sure that it will end up costing the town money, where does this stuff end?

No cost to town the leagues pays for everything pay attention please

Who will pay for the mowing of the grass and upkeep of the grounds? Who will pay for the plowing of the 170 space parking lot? How much is the league paying the town to lease the property?
I think people could better understand the project if these questions were answered.

My problem with all this is why do they stillneed McNamara if this field is built...as far as I am concerned, if they still have to use McNamara, why give up the land? how about this:fewer teams and games..Kaplan says in the paper that there will be the "opportunity" to not have games during Fall baseball...this should be required....this whole thing is a sad commentary on todays sports for kids..as Kaplan says "there will be no pratice times" as fields need to be used for games...Little League,no practice.huh? isnt the point of Little League to learn to play baseball?

Mr Kaplan talks about fall baseball in the Herald...what if youth football wanted to have spring football????would the town give them land?did it ever cross anyones mind to have a smaller league? I played Little League in the 70s..we had cuts to control amount of players...

Good point breachway...league is so concerned with getting maximum amount of players($$$) that they dont seem concerned with the whole learning/practice thing. will people ever be able to go to a field in town and whack a ball around for fun? not unless Parks and Rec schedules the field for you...pulic land and you cant use it..go figure

Breach... point made... I'll look into it.

I agree with you fully on reducing the field usage at Macnamara. However, I guess I wasn't totally clear that you wanted to eliminate field usage there.

Actually, I was thinking that you wanted to eliminate field usage everywhere besides the proposed fields.

Am I correct that you just want to end the use of Macnamara? Or is it that you want to end the use of all fields?

IF WE COULD START WITH MCNAMARA THAT WOULD BE GOOD. I'M ALL FOR LITTLE LEAGUE AND WILL DONATE TO THE FUND IF ITS GOING TO WORK. BUT I REALLY FEEL FOR THE FOLKS ON WEISE RD.

Here is a good example of why no matter what you do the noCheheshre.org angry crowd will get in the way. A group comes forward and says it will put up over a million $ and develop a field. They will maintain about 99% of it and will actually take the strain off the Mac/Legion situation and allow more kids to practice and play the game. Read the above objections and you can see why they seem so out of touch with the vast majority of citizens in Cheshire who are working for a more positive community. Leave them behind and move up and beyond the bitterness.

I think the above are concerned with the fact that all of our parks have been taken over by little league games...get upset about the fact that they have no practices and only seem to worry about amount of paying players

The new field will not free up anything. The plan by the ball field people is to have their own fields like they say, but with no time available for practice they will still consume all waking hours on all the other fields for practice. So what will be said when this comes true?

I think this can set a new precedent, pay to play. If a private firm wants to pay to play then this should be suggested to the Bored of Education and the Supt. parents can foot the bill for the kids to play. A novel way of getting a new turf field.
