Capital Budget '10/11: economic development

The economic development section of the proposed capital budget includes West Main Street improvements. This is the final portion of the budget:Here's a map of the section of West Main Street being improved. Personally, I think there's real value in adding sidewalks from Rumberg to the top and bottom of West Main (on the north side of the road). But I'm not convinced that the anything beyond basic sidewalks is worth all the government spending at this point.Tim White

It still boggles my mind as to why we are putting a decorative walkway in fromt of a pizza parlor, a convenience store and private residences?? Is this the best way to spend that money? I would even consider making sidewalks on the other side of West Main st.

While we're at it, does Dalton plan on doing anything with the Ball & Socket building? It is a shame. It would be a great space to convert to some retail stores and restaurants the way the Watch Factory was. Then, I could see making a nice decorative walkway.
