No raise for TM, will Councilman Spendthrift object?

From the MRJs Leslie Hutchison:

Municipal leaders are lining up to take a wage freeze on their salaries for the 2009-10 fiscal year. Town managers in Cheshire and Southington have announced they will voluntarily freeze their wages for the year that begins on July 1, 2009.

Cheshire Town Manager Michael Milone told the Town Council's personnel committee last week that he would not take a salary increase

It's a start. I appreciate the TMs offer, but the spending cuts (or non-increases) are going to be much more widespread. I mentioned rollbacks in staffing hours a couple months ago. No other Council member said as much during the December Council meeting... heck, I even recall one member of the majority talking about how we need to continue spending on all our "priorities." But he lives in a dream world where Crusher gives him turf for free.

I hope our spendthrift Council members wake up and join the real world before we vote on the budget in April.

My whole company is not getting raises, losing bonuses, no promotions and we are laying off over 700 workers....there should be no raises town wide.

He does a great job for the special interest groups and the Good Ole Boys. What they want they get.

What about the TM Office that he slowly but steadily renovated over the past decade to the tune of about $100K++? How come no one on the TC ever broguht this up???

Any of you complainers want his job? It is far less than executives who run a much smaller operation in the private sector. I appreciate his gesture. He is the most thorough and prepared person at any TC meeting. Quality people cost money. MM could have left anytime in the last 10 years when times were good and made double what he makes here in Cheshire. He stayed here and built up a healthy fund balance and bond rating.
There are definitiely administrative positions in that buidling that could be eliminated with technology and they may have to be after this year.
