Courant on artificial turf
The Courant editorializes on artificial turf:

At least 80 municipalities in Connecticut use crumb rubber in their athletic fields. Officials in these towns have legitimate concerns that haven't been addressed by the federal government's facile assurances of safety.

Can't wait for the lawsuits to start.
There has to be something wrong with people who still want this before the state completes their study. Let their kids be the ones to play on it first. Let them risk their health.
They should investigate how we can get 500k for turf when the state is going under. The TC who voted yes for this should be ashamed.
The Council could return the money to the State and ask that taxpayer dollars be put to better use; or they could push their turf project through and keep the money for something we don't need while teachers and other town staff and citizens get laid off as the economy continues to go down the toilet.

"In view of the changed economic and fiscal situations of the town and state, we are now recommending that the $500K grant go to more pressing needs than turf."
NAAAAA ... ain't gonna happen!
Can't feel sorry for teachers if layoffs are needed. Can't see that they have really cared about the taxpayers. If they want big raises when everyone else is suffering, then they in effect have made the choice for layoffs.
