MRJ on Marilyn Bartoli's new role

From Jesse Buchanan:

Marilyn Bartoli is the new head of the Republican Town Committee, replacing three-year chairman Stephen Carroll after he resigned on Nov. 14....

"Some have painted the Republican Party as an adversary of the people," she said. "That's been one of the downfalls - that we haven't been communicating with the town."

If the Republcan Party can do its role and stand up for conservative spending principles and point out 1) The HUGE liability facing the town in the next 20 years in the school infrastructure & 2) The wasteful Town spending that is occurring (i.e) the Town Manager's $100K office)--they might have a chance to win in 2009. Times are tough and will get worse--wait until after the holidays.

If you follow the Town Council meetings on public access or read the Cheshire Herald you will see that the four Republican Council members are doing just what you are asking them to do. The unfortunate part is that minority status places our agenda and your concerns in second place.

The Republican council put forth a budget alternative this year that was rejected. It called for a lower increase in spending than was later approved that night by the Democratic majority. Most recently the vote to reject the teachers contract as currently negotited (a very hefty 4 1/2% average pay increase) was also defeated in a 5D to 4R vote.

The support your local elected Republicans need is for you to appear at town meetings, voice your comments and concerns there or in the Cheshire Herald and urge your neigbors to vote in local elections (they don't - 43% turned out in 2007).

You may also ask yourself this question, Would I make a good candidtae to help restore fiscal responsibility in my community?

Our democrat collegues are reasonable people but they can't say no. If they can't make tough choices they have defaulted on their responsibility and desrve to lose next November.

To Tim Slocum:
You wrote a great letter to the editor addressing their editorial. It is unfortunate that they have their own agenda.
There are many of us who don't subscribe to Cox cable, so there is no way for us to see these meetings without going to them in person. Someday we may be able to see them on the internet, until then, I am glad there are people like Tim showing us the meetings.
I am hoping the Republicans can come up with a good slate for next years elections.I thought Marilyn would make a run at it, but I guess not with her new role.
Perhaps you can give us some advice on how to go about getting more involved in the Republican party? There are many of us who don't know what the qualifications are to be a council member.
We appreciate all you and the other Republicans are doing to be fisclly responsible. I wish the others would open their eyes to what is going on in this economy.

I don't have cable TV (Cox or Uverse). I thank my Mom & Dad for helping me get the meetings on DVD, so I can burn and upload them.

Are they on UVerse now?

If by "they" you mean "Council / BOE / PZC meetings," not as far as I know.
