"No contest" for hockey fight charges

Reported by the NHRs Luther Turmelle:

The men charged in connection with a fight outside a youth hockey game at the Northford Ice Pavilion in January pleaded no contest Thursday to reduced charges in Superior Court.

Frank Ruocco, 41, of Cheshire, and Lawrence Smith, 41, of Greenfield Center, N.Y., were issued infractions and required to make $750 donations to youth hockey organizations.

Update: as far as I know, there is no relation to my fellow Councilman.

Barbaric. Both of them.

Why is it we always see violence around hockey, and rarely around, say, basketball?

Why do we always see violence around rap and hip-hop, and never around symphony music? Are some sports and "cultural" genres inherently barbaric?

To Barbaric --

A few years ago outside of Boston, rival rap groups were shooting at each other’s cars on the expressway following a rap concert. Funny you don’t see that following a Boston Symphony concert.

At least hockey serves to channel the aggression of men with uncontrolled testosterone. Better they be pounding out each other on the ice than shooting each other in the streets.
