Political or apolitical?

Following the Town Manager's report during last night's Council meeting, I posed a couple questions to the TM:

It seems to me that town management that is apolitical in nature would not be discussing the timing of union business (in relation to an election) with union leaders.

At about 3 minutes into the clip did the TM really mean to say,... 'there is a contract being negotiated and there are a whole host of things on the table. . .'?

Are all the supposed grievances really bargaining chips for the union in association with the next contract with the town and the tax payers? Is this all about the next police department labor contract with the town?

Tim White, stop your lies! In this morning's 'Waterbury Republican' on page 5b "White said he did not know about the personal comments against (Laura)Decaprio. He said he tries to keep track of the comments on the blog but does not always know about every comment posted." This is the lie. Every posting must be approved before it gets 'published' So I'm calling you out on this... Publish this or I have just proven you DO have the control.

Ms. Ryan
I agree that the cheap shots about her being at the Waverly were uncalled for.

Was the Cheshire Herald wrong when they wrote the editorial about Ms. DeCaprio chatting in the audience while concerned citizens spoke? Then she does and votes...Not what the public deserves wrom a member of the town council

Did DeCaprio not say the council was "blindsided" recently about the vote of no confidence? Was she listening to the rest of the town council?

Does she ever waiver from the majority on anything??

I agree that personal attacks are not called for, but looking at her record, I don't believe she should be representing this town.

Tim does the best he can to monitor and update this blog. This is the way many of us find out the facts about what is going on in this town. It is a shame that we don't have more representatives doing this.
First ammendment rights are also something we shouldn't take for granted.
Tim, on many occasions has removed comments or just some content that he felt were not appropriate or were personal. I feel that DeCaprio could have contacted Tim about this but she was looking for free PR and called the newspaper...That's a cheap shot from her. This is Politics!

Seems she's doing some "grand standing" of her own. I believe those running for office are going to have to take the "knocks" now and then. When the info is true she can't deny it.

Maybe she can also explain why she seems to constantly chit chat with her neighbor up on the dias during the meeting while speakers are at the microphone or even when councilors are discussing topics. This to me seems very rude and she should be paying attention so that she isn't blindsighted by anything else.

I received a flyer in the mail from the Republican Town Committee stating that they were looking into cutting the police force and using part time state troopers to fill in any gaps.
The flyer stated this Police Chief no confidence vote is just a tactic by the Police union to get what they want-a starting salary of $55,000 for what?? what do these people do to deserve that type of starting salary can you tell me??

This is so rediculous on so many levels - who would believe such a thing?

Why is this ridiculous? several people i know got the flyer in the mail on thursday afternoon it looks like an official flyer from the cheshire rtc and it says that the town could save money by using state troopers

I so hope these fliers are a joke. If they are true, not 1 republican deserves the right to even have his or her name on the ballot. Saving money by replacing half the police force with Staties? The starting salary for a State Police officer is twice what a Cheshire officer makes. How is that saving money? My understanding of the vote of no confidence is that the union is not looking for any money. They reportedly are not looking to add officers or recieve raises. I have said before that we need to consider paying our officers more but this is not the time nor reasonable approach to this goal.

If these fliers are real, and from the RTC, some people are going to have alot of explaining to do, quickly!

10:08 If you got a flyer like that, it has to be a democrat who is attempting to discredit the republicans. Wouldn't surprise me that they'd try to do that. Why don't you pop that flyer in the mail to Tim so he can investigate and clear up the matter...that is unless you thought this silly scheme up yourself.

RE: a flyer supposedly from the Republicans saying they want to replace local police with state police.

Don’t be so naïve, use common sense. Even if they wanted to this, they wouldn’t put out such a flyer just before an election. It would be suicide.

The flyer is obviously a dirty trick by some Democratic supporters. It’s also a Federal crime to use the mails to misrepresent and defraud others. The postal authorities should be asked to investigate.

stating that they were looking into cutting the police force and using part time state troopers--- This could be the most foolish thing I have ever heard in this Town. How will they communicate (radios cost $$), Who will be in charge of what (command issues), State Police are already spread thin.
This is just ignorant

a starting salary of $55,000 for what-- keeping your family and mine safe, placing themselves at risk on a daily basis, being exposed to medical, chemical, biological infection (they are first responders)... are you serious do some research on what officers make (many are highly educated) then speak. What do teachers get paid so much for, how about public works, or sewer plant employees. I wont even venture into the private sector.
People love to bash police, until you need one, then you pray to god that they are there fast to help you, raise your kids, render medical aid, or arrest the one that violated you.

Hey Holly - maybe you should read the blog all the time before you comment....DIcaprio is way over her head and as a concerned citizen - Aren't you concerned that she seems so Unconcerned? can't pay attention at the meetings, didn't know anything about the police vote? doesn't that sound a bit rediculous knowing what we know now?
