09/10 Capital Budget: emergency operations center

Here's the emergency operations center. Notice there's nothing in the capital budget for this year. This emergency operations center is proposed as a retrofit to the old firehouse (between the new firehouse and the Waverly). If this center is not created, then this same location is proposed as a storage facility for a newly-created food pantry.

I believe the space recently became available and was loaned to the food pantry. I suspect once the construction at St. Bridgets is complete, the space will once again be available for EOC.

I would want my EOC in an old dilapidated building too. Especially one 20 yards away from the fire station and within a quarter mile of the police station. Maybe they could build a bunker up at Boulder Knoll when they dig the new well. At least when the town blows up, they will have fresh vegetables to sustain the first responders manning the fort.

Didn't realize you were a structural engineer

Makes sense to put it near the center of town. Emergency personel can get there quick, it's uphill, has radio antenna towers, and built out of brick. Sounds good to me

Why not keep the EOC at the police department and keep the old firehouse as the food pantry? I heard during a council meeting that they'd let them store some food there but couldn't afford to give any money out of the budget towards any other of their food pantry efforts.Funny how there's money for some things in the budget but not something that would help the needy.

The idea of an EOC is to have it off premisis incase of fire, flood, attack, or other disaster. Putting it in the basement of PD makes it as vulnerable as the station itself
