Special Council mtg 7/26

There will be a special Council meeting tomorrow night. Two items are on the agenda:

1) set public hearing for capital budget (to be 8/14)
2) Norton School boilers

I believe the meeting was scheduled on Mon or Tues and I cannot be there.

Tim White
Town Council, 4th District

What's the real story on the replacement of the pump truck? Will they get rid of the existing truck or continue to keep it?

Can't see why the current one is so dangerous. I never heard of one rolling over. Have we considered that mowers and tractors can roll over?

Is this a shell game to get another truck for the Northend.

When are they going to talk about the need for a fire station in the Northend? With all that building and the large increase in traffic, one will definitely be needed. I know they are thinking about it, but are they afraid to actually start talking publicly about it, or will there be another emergency meeting to make that decision.

Excellent questions on the fire house on the Northend and the fire truck. In the capital budget for the last few years a line item exists for a new Northend Fire house. Due to the current condition of Headquaters, would it make sense to relocate the Headquaters farther to the North? (Remember that we have a South End Fire House that it barely in action)
In review of the existing equipment - what is the problem with the truck? How is it that towns throughout the country are still utilizing trucks from the 70's as main line vehicles?
We need protection, but the Town of Cheshire needs to stop wasting money!!! I am tired of paying high taxes, not having a say in town, and watching money wasted. Tim, someone needs to step up to the plate.

P&Z public hearing set for Sept 24th for northend plans. How quick is this going??? Hope they make the public aware of it. Get ready for round II. Where is the impact study???

How about DiPietro's letter to the editor saying "we should applaud the diligence of councilwoman Esty in uncovering the practices" of the clerk's office. I guess that's his way of trying to smooth over Esty's outrageous accusations of shenanigans. Are we to applaud her insinuations, her witch hunt, and her intent to spend our tax dollars for a third party to investigate? I don't think so. Any reasonable council person would have approached the clerk back in February with any questions about procedure. It's obvious that Esty intended to create a "scandal". Just dirty politics, if you ask me.

The Milone McBroom impact study was probably completed in Jan. So let the public talk, blah, blah, blah and then P&Z can pat themselves on the back for folowing orders, and then rubber stamp it approved, stamp, stamp, stamp, stamp.

There you are. Build anything you want.

You are right on the money. O.K. to build whatever you want

Dipetros letter has it right
the town clerk screwed up and now the repub are trying to cover it up

I'm a Democrat I am as disgusted by DiPietro as Estey and Hall. Instead of having people of integrity we have low life bottom feeders.

These people are a disgrace to the ideals of the Democratic party. They don't represent the Democrats of Cheshire. They only represent the special interests and do their bidding.

The Bowmans and Calcagnis have to love them.

If it is just the democrats fault how come all the EDC guys are ok with the north end (many are republicans) a group of dem and REPUBLICANS voted on the pz for the north end
So I guess it is both rep and dems who are ok with it

Depietro should resign as chairman of the Democratic Town Council. His Op/Ed in todays Herald was yet another unfounded attack on the Town Clerk. It as bad enough that Ms. Esty and Mr. Hall attempted to cast a light of impropriety upon her reputation, but now this disgraceful man attempts to continue this slanderous attack.

I think people in this town demand he apologize, and demand he resign. I am going to email Mr, Hall and Ms. Esty and let them know that the behavior of their party leader is unacceptable....disgusting....

Tim, it might be a good idea to go through the HVAC needs of all our schools.

Highland is using room air conditioners which must be very inefficient. In the spring when my son's allegies are out of control they keep the doors open to try and control the temperature of the hallways...and my kid is in dire straits.

We have a lot of school where major systems should be about functionally obsolete and it would make sense to do a 4-5 year replacement strategy

who is running is it Chaney and Rumsfeld for Rep council
That is the way it looks to me

"So I guess it is both rep and dems who are ok with it"

Yes, some Republicans voted for it too and they should be voted out of office as well, but it is the Democrats and especially the their party leader, Ernie DiPietro who openly takes credit for the zone changes. It is obvious that Strollo will profit from this type of development of the NE. Kurtz might profit from it as they own real estate close by.

And, the individual Democrats had the integrity to oppose this disaster should be fully supported.

The bottom line is, support the people that care for the town and get rid of those that support the developers, and that should include staff people like Voelker.

Anon 9:05 I agree. As far as the EDC. They should have demanded an impact study. How could they arrive at a decision to support this without one. They didn't do their job. This whole thing smells bad and yes both R's and D's are contributing to the odor. They call it a "LIFE STYLE CENTER" I will call it a "ROTTEN MESS".

I have a question, why do I see for rent signs up in front of almost every apartment complex in town? If people are dying to come here and fill our schools why have they not filled the existing apartments?

Anonymous said...

Have you seen how many houses that are for sale and at a "Reduced price". I guess all the non-shoppers are moving out and the shoppers will be moving in.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:58 The rents might be high? Why rent when you can buy. There are many small homes for sale.

Ok so we should worry about the 30 or so people who have made it their life to stop the north end
I don't think so
The CAVEMEn ARE ON THE RUN

Anonymous said...

If it's only 30 or so people why are you so worried? Do you need 100% of the people behind you? Do you need all the toys in the sand box? You will not get mine.

ANON 7/26 11:58 I agree these systems should be check. We can save a lot of money in the long run and the kids would feel better. I have no children in the school system but would support this. Money well spent. Let's get our house in order.

you need at least 50 per cent but the anti ne dev are actually a very small group
Most are willing to take a look and see what the we people have to offer
the anti people said no wo even a look
most will support this the question is the residential
but lets at least take a look

Anonymous said...

How could you support something that you don't know what it is. It's ever changing. First condo's then garden apts and now apt with a hotel. The 65 foot clock tower is now a hotel. Recall at the begining they didn't need the residential. I will look but I'm not buying.

"They should have demanded an impact study."

The Democrats on the council, EDC and P&Z didn't need an impact study as they support the local developers and realtors. They didn't want any answers to questions that would make this look bad. They had enough information to know that this is the worst thing that has ever happened to Cheshire. When all the costs are in, they won't be able to act surprised. They sold us out.

Instead of smart growth and protecting the environment, and keeping Cheshire's unique character, they voted for costly growth and the hell with the environment. Shame on them.

Anonymous said...

The residential component of this development will be all Section 8 a decade later. That's what happened to all the condos in Waterbury built along main roads there...so it won't happen five miles away...please

Anonymous said...

Anyway you look at it, apartment bldgs pay a lot less taxes that single family stand alone houses on a per sq ft living space, but use the same town services per resident.

Yes, we get to subsidize Bowman and Calcagni's rentals, and that's before the spike in school age children.

Thanks Voelker and P&Z.

This northend is not reality yet. Please attend the Sept 24TH meeting and start questioning everything. Plans should be public info. Go to the P&Z office and ask. Look them over and voice your concerns.

What kind of insesitive anal cavity would raise the name of a heinous criminal THIS WEEK in THIS TOWN?

Anonymous said...

They should change the title of Planning and Zoning, drop the planning as there isn't any.

It's all fixed for the developers.

Anonymous said...

I can't see how this thing gets built, I don't think it will.

Maybe WS will build us a fire house in the north end?
