David Orsini and David Schrumm are out. I offer a thanks to both of them for their years of service. On the Dem side, I've heard rumors, but haven't heard anything definite yet.

UPDATE: Here's the WRAs report on the Dem caucus (by Gennady Sheyner) and on how the race is shaping up with issues. Diane Visconti is out (thanks for your years of service Diane), so it's an open seat in the 3rd district Council seat... along with two open at-large Council seats. And finally, I'm not sure yet, but I may not be blogging for a couple of days.

Tim,

Good luck in your reelection bid.

You certainly have represented the fourth district well for the last four years and will continue to do a great job for the next two years.

The townsfolk will grow to lament the loss of Schrumm and Orsini on the council; the voices of logic and forward-thinking, and champions of the average family.
Thanks guys, you'll be missed.

Anonymous said...

Looks like both Orsini and Schrumm saw that after all their antics that they would have no chance ag the the mighty Dem lineup

Anonymous said...

why is DS not running?

Anonymous said...

DS chose not to run for reelection.

It's a sad day for Cheshire. They have lost two dedicated and honest councilmen. Their families will be happy that they will see more of them. Thanks for supporting them while they servred and they did make Cheshire a better place. You will be missed but I hope both of you will continue to question and offer your opinions on future town matters.

Anonymous said...

Dave Schrumm and Orsini were one of the few councilmen who really took the average taxpayer into consideration. They will be missed but they will be better off without the nasty comments. Who needs the aggravation

Anonymous said...

Ha that is funny
Schrumm is the king of nasty comments and has been a negative person
That is funny

"Since we won control two years ago, our people won some major inroads in terms of moving the town in new direction," DiPietro said.

You certainly did move the town in a new direction, down the tube and totally controlled by the developers and the special interests.

This party no longer represents the people. It doesn't care what happens to the character of our town so long as the developers are happy.

I'm sick that I belong to this party that has gone out of it's way to push the northend disaster. Wait and see, you can thank this leadership when your taxes go as a result of filling the pockets of the local developers.

Matt Hall should be getting even more bnusiness from them.

Anonymous said...

I agree. I just posted about it over at the CTP.

"The parties achievements, he said, include encouraging development at the north side of town, instituting tax breaks for seniors and keeping tax increases minimal.”

How can DiPietro or the party boast about the north-end sell-out?

What about the nasty comments by MR Hall and MRS Esty???? Both of them think that the aveage citizen does not understand anything. They always talk down to them..They have done nothing. Time to move on.

Thanks, Tim, for your other post of sympathy for the Petit family, and thanking the members of Cheshire's police and fire departments.

This is a sad week for Cheshire, and I hope we all pause to take into account what is most important in life, and yes, to count our precious blessings. And I commend all to deep prayer where we can find healing and renewal of our faith, hope, and love. God bless us all, every one.

"The mighty Dem line up". What else should they investigate? They did a bad job the last two years. They did not represent the citizens. The seniors certainly will remember. How can they take credit for something that they promised and didn't deliver on. Thanks Mr Ruocco and all the people who signed the petition.

Anonymous said...

Your right, the Dem's are taking credit for the senior tax credits WHAT A JOKE! They ran on helping seniors but it took a petition to move them. That's why Visconti knew she wouldn't get reelected, she was totally against the seniors and they would give her her walking papers.

Looks like Matt Bowman and Justin Adinolfi either decided or someone helped them decide on not running. Neither of these had a chance of winning and never ever had the interests of Cheshire in mind.

Rumor had it that Justin would be working for W/S full time if the zone change was passed. I can't see that anything would change as that's all he's done. And, Matt worked real hard to remove the opposition flyers. He said he doesn't own any part of the 100 acres with his brother, so was he just a good brother or does he own some in the other 300 acres?

The good ole boys and W/S have to give a big thanks to Ernie Dipietro for delivering Cheshire into their hands lock stock and barrel. They all can celebrate in the new hotel and hold their future fund raisers there.

Come on Cheshire, give them the boot.

The at large and district candidates are the bitter angry white men of cheshire
CAVE Men are us!!
Looks like another loser ticket to me

Anonymous said...

Give it a break, "CAVEman". Can't you even pretend to be something other than a political pitbull during this week of townwide grief? Just goes to show that some liberal Democrats can be "bitter, angry white men" too.

Anonymous said...

There will not be any difference between Cheshire and anything surrounding. It will just be part of the sprawl.

Thank the Democratic leadership, if that's what you want to call it. Sold Cheshire's future down the drain.

Get rid of the Town Planner and save $100,000 a year. There is nothing left to plan, now that there is no zoning. Just let the Bowman's and Calcagni's do whatever the &^$(*& they want, they're going to do it anyway.

Anonymous said...

Gee tim I thought you were going at large
well you have your work cut out for you as you lost to vickie in your district last time
You had a good run maybe it is time to move on

Anonymous said...

What a bunch of boneheads that are going to run this town further into the ground...including this blog administrator !!!!

Anonymous said...

Get rid of Voelker and the guy who brought him here, Milone.

Get rid of anyone on a commission that is connected to the developers, either directly or through family ties. That includes the lawyers that do realty closings or work for the developers in any other way.

Anonymous said...

The Republican ticket is great!!! That group should win this election at least 6-3 maybe 7-2. I think that Hall and Esty may win but that will be it!!! It will be great to have control again!!!

Anonymous said...

Well if you like angry bitter CAVE men of cheshire you are going to love the slate of men the rep are putting up
And Steve Carroll says this is a diverse group
If sameness is diversity
Looks to me like the anti north end and the lets go back to the zero budget folks are running with no vision at all
dems 7-2 no dobut

Anonymous said...

"Looks to me like the anti north end and the lets go back to the zero budget"

Best thought yet.

The vision the Dems have is to continuing the sell out of Cheshire to the developers, get big campaign contributions from them and raise taxes.

Anonymous said...

As an u voter I am interested in this north end stuffr
Maybe we should wait to see what the developer plans to do then get the impact studies and see if it fits
why is everyone already saying it wont be good if we dont have all the information
Anyone who has already made up their mind about this will not get my votes
It seems like the republicans are already against this like that Mr Sima guy

Anonymous said...

Ok now if this is not a CAVEMAN example what is
you guys bitch and moan adn then this post goes up
any wonder

The Cheshire Republican Town Committee is planning a campaign fundraiser to honor David Orsini and David Schrumm. The date is September 31st and John Rowland is the scheduled guest speaker. The location will be a phone booth somewhere in the north end of town

Anonymous said...

I heard that there is going to be a special guest the former mayor of waterbury

Anonymous said...

9:19
The Dems are opening a Cigar Bar with peep shows shown every 5 minutes in honor of Bill Clinton. Former Bridgeport Mayor Ganim will be hosting this fundraising event to help the local party start off the fall campaign with a bang.

6:24 PM...Does U mean unqualified?

"It seems like the republicans are already against this like that Mr Sima guy"

Did you notice the the PZC vote. one D and one R opposed. It passed 7-2. Sima is on Board of Ed.

So much for an informed voter with an open mind.

Anonymous said...

Sima has made anti north end comments in the paper and at board meetings. He is on record ag. the north end
Ask hime he will tell you
U means no party
get with it man!

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:24 How much more BS do you have to see. These people (W/S) have lied right from the start. The hotel was never in the original (no plan). They could have mentioned it,they didn't. If you remember the 65 ft heigth was for a clock tower. BS. BS. Do your homework. This, if built will not be anything like what they have shown us. Get real. Some people in this town understand this and are just trying to make others aware and to question. It's going to mean higher taxes for all of us in the long run.

Anonymous said...

So Sima asked some question about a Proposed text change and he is not a good candidate? He is one member of the BOE who does not rubber stamp everything DR Florio presents before the board. These are the type of people I will support in Nov. whether R or D. This is not the national elections and I believe each candidate should do what is best for our town period.

Anonymous said...

This election is meaningless, who cares? Does it really matter?

Anonymous said...

If everyone felt as you do I can only say "God help us all".

Anonymous said...

sIMA MADE STATEMENTS TO ALOT OF PEOPLE ABOUT "PAVING THE TOWN OVER" AND IT IS THE "END OF CHESHIRE'
HE AND SCHRUMM WERE AGAINST IT FROM THE START
MORE CAVEMEN

Anonymous said...

I think these men are "SMARTmen" ( Sound Management And Reasonable Taxes").

Anonymous said...

Go SMARTMEN.

Anonymous said...

SMART men and women already taken by the Dems
Sorry but with less than a one mill increase and less than 100 ave tax increase per aver household that was already done
Sima and Carroll and Slocum are prime examples of CAVEMen

Anonymous said...

No one should vote this year, this election is a joke with no real candidates.

Anonymous said...

There are smart men and women on both sides. I wish that they would work together as a team and do what is best for the town and the citizens. It's late and maybe I'm dreaming.

The 100 acres that this abortion is to built on is one of the most environmentally important pieces of property in Cheshire. Bowman, Calcagni, DiNatali and W/S don't want the people of Cheshire to see it and that's why they threaten to arrest anyone found on the property.

These people have no regard for natural beauty or the wildlife that exists on this unique property. Instead, they want to pave most of it over. How many square feet or roofing, parking and access roads will be paved over by 5-600,000 sq ft of stores, 162 apartment, walkways, catch basins, bridges, and the latest a hotel?

Notice that the retail went from 500,000 sq ft to between 5-600,000. I'll bet it is closer to 600,000 now which allows for more stores and more apt space.

7 P&Z members have joined the "Pave Cheshire Over" group.

Remember that W/S didn't really care about the apartments. W/S does do apartments. You can thank your local developers for the apartments.

Anonymous said...

100 acres = 4 million sq ft. More than half or over 2 million sq ft will be parking lots, roads, sidewalks, roofing etc. The ten mile river and the culvert take up some space. Is there going to be enough room for everything they are proposing? Just a thought.

Anonymous said...

Man I just got back from vacation and all i got to say is ....
WHAT WERE THE REPUBLICANS THINKING!
First off they have the angry white man thing going on as the council slate
bad choices all around
Dont they have any normal moderate people over there?
And no women
The dems are gonna roll you guys again
Ya better get with it or you will be the sad elephant again

Anonymous said...

11:45 PM

Why should you care? Did you or your wife/husband approach the Republicans and say you were willing to serve. You don't agree with the Republicans anyway so what standing do you really have in their slate selection anyway? If you are so happy with the Dems candidates so be it. Go out and help them win.

What standard do you use to determine anger?...Folks you don'y agree with.

I have looked at the Republican slate and there is a reasonable mix of work experieces and a record of service to the community among most of them. The Dems do out number them in the number of lawyers running (6D-2R).

Truth be told both parties have a hard time feilding candidates and anyone will to run is sticking their neck out. So give them a break.

Tim White said...

6Ds & 2Rs are lawyers? Does that include all elected positions or Council only? I'm thinking that goes behind the Council and probably includes BOE, PZC, etc. Am I right?

Anonymous said...

Tim,
The lawyer count is for all elected seats not TC. The R's have no lawyers running for council which is plus I'd say. May common sense prevail and the Town atty. do all the legal stuff.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't matter if they are lawyers business men or women, business owner etc. The important thing is they will do what is best for the town and its citizens. More citizens must get involved on how the town is run. They must take time and attend meetings etc. They should be very interested on how their TAX MONEY is spent.

Lou Murray said...

I think it's time for the council to answer first to the taxpayers. Being against everything isn't the answer but looking for the waste and frivolous spending in everything that gets approved is a good way to reduce spending. This is definitely going to take a Republican majority on the TC to get it done.

Anonymous said...

Loumurray - Spending rates in Cheshire grew much faster under republican leadership. All of their talk about being conserative is a joke. Read the budgets, it is a fact that they spend money.

Anonymous said...

"it is a fact that they spend money"

Maybe I'm just a spend-happy lefty, but isn't it important to consistently approach spending in terms of what is an investment in the community and what is (as loumurray pointed out) waste?

It's increasingly clear to me that, on the local level, at least in Cheshire, party affiliation predicts very little.
