Orsini not running

Here is a link to Luther Turmelle's NHR article from last Friday on how the local election is shaping up on the right side of the aisle.

Important:

In the New Haven Register Today.

W/S will hold an informal meeting with the Inland Wetlands Commission at 7:30 in the Town Hall.

Important:

Is this a normal type of meeting where the developers meet in an informal session? How do we know they aren't meeting other places too?

Did they also meet with P&Z commission on an informal basis?
For some reason, something doesn't seem right.

Is Calcagni going to send his troop of actors with their "YES" signs?

Not a lot of wet lands on that property.

"Not a lot of wet lands on that property."

What property are you thinking about?

Wetlands are huge.

"Not a lot of wet lands on that property."

I'm assuming that's sarcasm. As I understand it, soil type alone can be enough for a designation. Besides, it's the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission.

Watercourse: "A natural or artificial channel through which water flows. / A stream or river."

They will have no proble with wetlands, do you think the project will end there, no way. Who is on that commission?

Anonymous said...

You conspiracy types should get off your fannies and go to the wetlands meeting. No one is going to let these guys put stores or apartments in the river. Get with it they want to sell and rent. That requires happy customers. Give it a rest with the ethics questions and go to meetings. Ask questions while there. You'll be amazed to see that no one wears trench coats and information does flow.

Matt Bowman will.

Maybe they can take a vote before tonight's meeting.

Mr. Orsini will be greatly missed on the council. I felt he was very knowledgable, concerned for all the citizens of Cheshire, and ran the council meetings extremely well. Thank God he had the sense, as did many other republican councilmen, to hold the line on spending during the revaluation budget year. Many people make donations to various town departments (library, fire svc., education, etc.) I for one, totally on my own, made a donation half of which went towards the purchase of books for CHS and the other half was given to the town side of the budget. I was greatful Mr. Orsini reminded citizens that donations are accepted. All citizens should consider donating. It should be something the current council chair reminds people of during the budget process (although I have yet to hear him say it). Thank you Dave for all that you have done!!

I found this man to be dishonest and his show with Tom Ruocco is bitter and angry and he is lucky he is not running bc he would not win

He pitted groups against one another and he had disdain for anyone who dared disagree with him
He never could be trusted to act in good faith with the people of Cheshire
He leaves office a broken bitter and impotent man

For all those that are trying to put a spin on the "write a check" or more accurately said - "the town accepts donations" remark that Mr. Orsini made...here's my comments as just one person that did donate -

Whether it's a donation or paid through your taxes, it's still money going towards education or town services.
Maybe those that want to spend more on education should have donated so as to ease the burden on those that can't afford more. Or do you just want to drive them out of town because they can't afford the high taxes?
People who want everything should be more generous with their money and stop expecting everyone else to pay for it.
S.Z.

PS - the book I had CHS buy was called "An Nasiriyah - The Fight for the Bridges"...It's the Marines' account of securing bridges and traveling through "Ambush Alley" in Iraq. My son was one of those Marines.
How nice it would be for our young people to learn about the sacrifices of others. What better way to learn than to read the book.

What have you done to give back?

During that school year many parents wrote many check to the town to cover the costs of everything from parking to sports and books and paper
So the Orsini plan worked there were many checks written that paid for much
ONce the parents had their choice in 05 they voted for no more checks and since then every thing has been put back for funding (thanks to Democrats) except for parking which may come out next year
Write a check?
Se ya Dave!

3:41 Many parents wrote checks for books and paper? Yeah, right.

I still think that he will run!!!!!

I hope he changes his mind. Dave Orsini has been one of the best councilmen we have had. He tries to do what he feels is the best for the town, everyone may not agree but that's the way of government.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you, Marion. I hope Mr. Orsini changes his mind and runs again.

I hope he changes his mind too
Then we can watch him go down in flames

We have some bitter people in this town as evidenced by this blog.

I agree some people are downright hateful and mean. Here is a person who spent many hours of his time to make Chehire a better town and this is what he gets. What would make anyone want to run for Town Council or any other elected position. Thanks Dave and the heck with them all. Enjoy all your free time. You deserve it....

Yea Dave thanks for all the trouble you caused with the zero budget and the write a check and the disrespect to the students who showed up and....
Yea have a great time while we clean up your mess

Like Gerald Ford some leaders must do unpopular things for the greater good regardless of the consequences to their own political futures. In the year of the famous "zero" budget the BOE ended up with a $1 million surplus which it put into its medical slush (oops I meant medical trust) fund. Dave O. and those who voted with him knew that someone finally had to tell the BOE that enough was enough and that they would have to tighten their belts a little. Remember not one teacher was laid off either. In retrospect it was absolutely the right thing to do. Good luck Dave and thank you for your service to this town.

10:28 Name three problems caused by the supposed zero budget. What's wrong with reminding residents that the town accepts donations? What disrespect was shown to the students?

Anonymous said...

the citizens did not want the budget to be a political tool to aim and fire at the school system
The R's were trying to send a message to the board
the next election the message got sent the other way
they were rejecting write a check and name names all orsini said
This years its sports next year its the band
Now he knows he cant run bc he would never make it

Anonymous said...

Dave Orsini knew that the BOE had a habit of playing games. Always threatening to cut band or sports if they didn't get their way. They knew these would bring out parents and students more than books and teachers (says a great deal doesn't it). The Town Council was fed up and so were many residents. The trouble is most parents don't take the time to see that the BOE plays these games they only see cuts. As was pointed out previously nothing was cut from the schools because of the zero budget. As far as not being unkind to students many residents waited for hours to speak because Dave let the students speak first. So it would be good if people got their facts straight. Dave Orsini has been a great councilman and we will miss him.

9:05 You still haven't answered the question.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:28 You are in a big mess with over $8M surplus. Go back and take math 101. Leave the man be. You seem to forget that all the pro-ed people(which have not been at one council or BOE meeting since they gained the majority)one after the other stood up at council meetings and stated they would gladly pay more for education. Well one citizen stood up at one of the meetings and told Orsini he was writing a check (I think it was $200) and if Orsini could get just three people at the meeting to match his check the town could cash it. Orsini said fine but not one person wrote a check. Orsini asked Milone at the next meeting if any was received and he also said no. So I would suggest if people want to throw stones to get their facts straight first.

How did all the student end up at the TC meeting that night? AD. No sports were cut and the parking fees raised a few thousand dollars out of a 70-80M budget. Smoke and mirrors by the BOE. This year they still never cut anything..

Anonymous said...

right the rep control council does the zero budget thing and citizens show up and protest and now it is the fault of the AD
Get real pal you and you buddies put the town a risk and the people had their say in 05
expalain that vote bubba
Dems took control of not just the council but the bd of ed and the P and z
If that is not a big defeat what is?

Anonymous said...

4:04 I don't think you get it. The boe was basically asked to live within their budget - not unreasonable since it was the re-evaluation year. The super uses cutting sports as a scare tactic. The AD emailed a bunch of people to drum up support at the meetings. In the end he probably could have avoided any participation fees because he ended up with a huge surplus that he put into the medical trust fund. It works everytime for him.
When are you people going to get it?!

If the dems stay in control they'll keep throwing millions into education thinking that more money will make it better. The dems never showed up at any boe budget meetings which shows they don't really care about the details of how the boe spends their money.
