Capital bgt (part 1)

There's a lot of info in the capital budget, but I'm going to try to give you a taste of what's in it.

Here you see the Town Manager's "description and justification" for adding $1,000,000 to the Town's Open Space account:

And here's why he feels we should add $500,000 to the West Main Street project:As I try to post more of these projects, I hope you find the information enlightening.

As a town resident, the budget does not matter too me because no matter what I do and what I try, my vote or opinion does not matter. If the town of Cheshire is going to spend $ 500K in an area that does not need it, especially becuase it is off from the center of town, then so bee it. If the town wants to buy open space and keep raising taxes, again, what does it matter. The amazing part of being in office is that you take comments and opinions from everyone and have the oppertunity to ignore. I know that I am writing this anonymous, and that is becuase in the past I added my name, only to be ignored.

So, we have two groups of people in town, the Ignorers and the Ignored, aka the taxpayers.

If you don't like being ignored then you should just shutup. They know what they are doing and it is always to help someone.

from 1:55 "If you don't like being ignored then you should just shutup. They know what they are doing and it is always to help someone."

I'm embarrassed by this post. It has no place on this board. As a response to someone concerned that their voice is unheard, it's just cruel.

There seems to be a small group of posters (one, maybe) looking not to make an argument or advocate any position, but to turn people off from discussion here altogether. This post certainly qualifies.

To the resident who felt ignored, the take-away message from that poster should be: keep speaking. They're listening. They might not always know what they're doing. They need your help and input to get the job done. And, sometimes they're not looking out for the best interests of the town. So, keep a close eye on them, speak out, and stay engaged.

"The purchase of undeveloped land protects community character and the intergrity of environmentally significant areas of Cheshire"

Is this the TM'S idea of a in your face joke?

So why did he bring in Voelker and push the W/S project? He can certainly take credit for a major part of changing the character of Cheshire forever and for paving over a very beautiful piece of property.

Talking about budgets there was an interesting editorial in the Hartford Courant today (Aug. 1st) dealing with the issue of teacher contracts and how negotiations are conducted behind closed doors. It stated considering how much teacher salaries and benefits take up in the town budget the taxpayers should be able to have more input. I strongly agree!

"to enhance and revitalize West Main St"

Revitalize? It was never vitalized.
The first $500,000 was more of our state money than most people would like to see spent on this. Now another $500,000 is going to be spent, on what.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a gift to the property owners and a waste of our state funds.

The Strollos have plenty of money to fix up their own property and they should do it with their own money. As for the other businesses, they are not the type that would attract people walking from shop to shop, it makes no sense.

The only sense that any of this makes is that it is being done for some special people that have plans for some of the surrounding properties. Could it be that with the new town plan of development, that allows residential in existing commercial zones that more shops and housing will be added here. Who could possibly benefit from this? Hmmmmmmmmm.

This adds up to 1 million. Isn't funny that one town council member was ridiculed for this much been spent on West Main St. Now it's ok. In two years we have such a different reason. Give me a break..

West Main=
Waste of Money

I am encouraged to see so many posts that question this insane spending. Certainly a portion of our tax money is being directed to special interests who will be the major if not only benefactors. It's time to put the spender's feet to the fire and make the TC accountable for our money. As my dad used to say " If you feel like you're getting screwed then more than likely someones screwing you. Blunt but true.

Who own's the old Ball & Socket building on West Main? I'd like to see it turned into a little mini mall. That would draw more people to that area. Forget the north end lifestyle center - that pave over job will ruin the character of our town.

Well West Main is good business for Milone & McBroom.

This whole project looks like something to benefit some special interests, but isn't that the job of the taxpayers to help those who really don't need help.

Eventually they will tell us what it is all about. I'm sure there will be one or more LLC's to further improve this area. Stay tuned.

There is nothing wrong with the town trying to make an area look better. West Main St. does look a bit worse for wear and could use a little makeover. I for one do NOT think this is a waste of money.
