Cheshire, Prospect save $$

This WRA article (by Lauresha Xhihani) points out how electricity prices are going up and what towns, such as Cheshire & Prospect, are doing to combat those costs.

The issue here is the Town has worked out a deal with CCM to save electrical costs. The schools did their own deal. The two never discussed combining their electricity demand for a better rate. So what went wrong?
Why did the school and the Town go separate ways on this? Lack of communication is the reason.

Lack of communication is an ongoing problem in Cheshire... as it is in so many places in life.

However, with regard to the schools & town pooling their purchasing power to save on electrical costs... my understanding is that the schools are currently under contract until Jan '07, while the town is not under any special contract right now.

So when the town manager enters into an electricity purchasing agreement, we should be able to get a "bulk purchase" discount (using both the schools and town). However, the schools (if they enter into the agreement), would not begin their discounted price until January.

At least that's my current understanding of the situation... both with where the town/schools stand and how we could move forward.
