Pool mold remediation may cost more than $250,000

The Herald's Josh Morgan reported on this week's happenings with the pool. The most unfortunate news made in the story was:

(Staff) was working with the contractors to see if there was a way to speed up the construction process by working longer days or on weekends, but understood that would come at an additional cost to the Town.

Shocking! The Rubber Stampers intend to waste even more money to band-aid the pool back together.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to spend we go!

The rest of the story discusses the four contractors who proposed a permanent structure for the pool.

47 days until we meet the 20th Council.

Its called overtime!

Why wasn't there a time frame put into the contract? A job like this should have included a completion date and future penalties for exceeding without proper notifacation.

Forget the overtime....finish it during normal work hours...this is not a neccessity for this town to run.

We have people losing jobs and cutting back to 4 day weeks and our town wants to pay OT to get the pool finished?

Where are our priorities?

This is why the TC shouldn;t focus on the relatively nominal difference ($1 M) in replacement cost between the replacement proposals; but focus on which plan is going to offer the greatest functional utility

"...However, Milone said he was working with the contractors to see if there was a way to speed up the construction process by working longer days or on weekends, but understood that would come at an additional cost to the Town.
Milone said the pool would remain open for as long as people were willing to use it and ..."

Dah, let's see. If I were a construction company and already had a contract and was already engaged in the actual work and the owner came by and said is, "...there .. a way to speed up the construction process...", how would I react?

I guess I'd be really polite and really nice as I slipped him a change order for a bazillion dollars (less than $350,000) and handed him a pen and showed him just where to sign since probably this guy really wasn't as experienced as he thought he was and maybe he hadn't previously worked through a change order increasing costs - - -. And being a pragmatic small business person maybe I wouldn't tell him that it was clear that I was having second thoughts over my bid and that I was quite happy at this point to go ahead and change the work scope and raise the price.

I wonder how voters will react if the pool is unavailable on election day? November can't come soon enough.

If the people of this town are stupid enough to bring back the dems as a majority, then they deserve what they get.
It is sad that there are so many people who live here who don't have a clue to what is going on in this town. They will just go and vote for someone because their friend told them to, they were visited at their home by the person running, they recognize the name, or just because. Too many don't look at the fact and figures and it is a damn shame.

This majority is very dangerous and needs to be booted.

Have no fear. The majority will be booted with your help.

Who has demonstrated the most willingness to address cost saving measures for the taxpayers, challenged the majority and town management on issues that matter to every taxpayer such as the 4% teachers contract pay increases, bid waivers, the pool fiascos, turfdreams and a list that goes on and on?

As for decorum, you don't see Ruocco, Sima, Slocum or White snoozing or slacking and goofing around during council sessions. They need your support to get 3 more just like them elected in the majority.
